combining two clips

Post by teresa92 »

Hi there, I'm new to VS, I'm actually using version 8. I've been going thru the tutorials, but can't see how to combine two video files. I only see how to clip video files. The files are captured in DV type 1 format, saved to my computer in avi format. Any help would be great.

Teresa,
You can do that by bringing both clips into the program and adding them to the timeline. You can add a transition between them if you would like here as well. After they are in the project, click on Share and then select "Create Video File". Then you can create a single file with both clips in it.

There are some details left, like what format you want it in and so forth, but depending on you plan for that clip you can find more details about the different file types looking around on the forum.

And to add to Bruce's useful post, you should definitely read the top sticky post on this Board, containing 'Recommended Procedures' for video editing with Video Studio...

Thank you TubaDad, I tried what you suggested, I created a video file and kept the settings 'same settings as project file.' And that worked, I was able to insert the newly combined clip into my VSP file with success! I hope I did the right thing by keeping the settings the same and saving it as an AVI file.

Thank you Ken for pointing out the sticky topic, I'll be printing those instructions out and using them! I've been looking for a good step by step guide. Thanks.

If you've completed all of your editing and are ready to go to the DVD authoring stage then render to MPEG2 as per the suggested settings
