Not sure exactly what type of explosion animation you are after, but Cool 3D Production Studio can do it for titles or other overlay inserts. But I warn you, it takes an unconscionable amount of time to render even a few seconds of animation in Cool 3D Production Studio, even though I have to say the effort is (probably) worth it!
Come to think of it, perhaps even the old bare bones version of Cool 3D which normally comes packaged with Video Studio, has a limited range of explosion effects and, IIRC, Cool 3D renders much faster than its Production Studio successor...
