What was the exact problem you had prompting you to get the SP3 patch even though it was not meant to be used with your version?
Have you even read this thread, or did you just throw down your comments blindly? I've already posted that the patch was designed for use with version 7VE. And you contradicted yourself by saying I could try something (as others apparently did) to get it working, just after saying it wasn't created for 7VE!

Again, not to sound insulting, but... sheesh. If you wanted to know what my issue was, you could've tried the thing on the side of your browser called a scroll bar.

Let's make something clear.

1. MSP 7 is discontinued on selling, but the tech support (including the service pack) for MSP 7 is still available.

2. A stand-alone VE version that you get is a function-limited version, which we call SE. Some service packs are not for SE version and you will need to upgrade to full version if you have problems and need the fix.

Some update packs will include new features for the full version, and that's why those update packs will not be applied to SE version or VE stand-alone version.

Best regards,
H.T.

That's not clear on the Ulead site at all. The updates may add functionality to the full product, but normally you'd expect a company to inform people that the patch wasn't to be installed for the VE version, or it would kill it (and no, saying "It only works for the full version" doesn't cover this). Considering the way the patch does muck up VE (a simple dll issue- not something related to the functionality of that which isn't included with VE) it seems to me that the patch was designed for all MSP7 users, VE included.

First, MSP has many feature-limited versions, which are been listed in http://www.ulead.com/msp/sn_form_msp_esd.htm

and only the full version can apply the update packs. So you can see the statement "Update pack is for use ONLY with full version" to be mentioned in http://www.ulead.com/tech/msp/msp_ftp70.htm

Second, I agree the Update Pack installer should detect what version you are using and stop the patch installation if the version does not meet the requirement. I will check with Ulead to see if anything can be done for this case.

Thanks and best regards,

If a VE edition which can be "bought" by spending a couple of pounds on a computer magazine to get the cover disc, worked exactly like a full version costing a couple of hundred pounds I wonder how many people would go out and buy the full version.

No one's talking about it working exactly like VS8, or even the full VS7. I'd like to buy version 8 so I can have something like videopaint... which to me, is worth the cost alone. We're simply talking about having the patch fix the bugs in version 7VE. That's it. Not upgrade it to uber-editor... just fix some bugs.

Anyway, thanks for the lame 'grow up' comment. Very pro.

I suspect if someone knew how good MSPro7VE was (and most people are clueless- just have a look at the tutorials in the magazine), they'd go out and get version 8 or even the full version 7 so they could use videopaint, which is a fantastic tool. Right now I don't have the cash, so I'm just looking to get used to version Mediastudio via 7VE (minus the bugs) so when I do have the cash, I can upgrade to another version.

I'm not being unrealistic, or stupid, and I don't need to grow up. This is a normal request, and as I said, and will say again (because people seem to be really good as mishearing) since Ulead have offered support for 7VE, there's nothing dumb about asking for the patch to be updated so it at least works. Quit the whole, "Quickly fans, defend HQ and the product!" and just let me put forward my request.

That's all.

And some people never read the actual text but interpret what they read in a way they want. Can't wait for you to come here again, complaining that you spend your hard earned cash to buy MSP 8 because you wanted VideoPaint. After all MSP 7 had it, why doesn't MSP 8.

Why would I do that? I remember back to when some of the guys on this forum complained about that very thing. I remember people complaining about MSP8's price... lots of different things. I may not have used MSP for a long time, but I have been around for a fair while, and I know what issues have been raised about many of the Ulead products.

I have no issues paying for MSP8 when the time comes, and the small amount extra to pick up Videopaint as well. Nice try at having a dig, though ;)
