Collages in 7.0?

Post by FEast »

Hi! I'm new here, so I hope you'll bear with me. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out things, and read all the instructions as well as buy and read books. However, I've been unable to figure out how to make photo collages in 7.0. Perhaps it's called something different and I just can't find it?

I want to take several photos, edit them, then put them all into one large jpg on a set background. Does anyone here know how to do that, or could you link me to a post that's already discussed this? Thank you!~Bountifully, Fuchsia

Create the size of the image you want for your background.
Fill-in the background with all of the colors and items you want.
Create a new Object using the Selection Tool. It has marching ants as a line of reference. You can also use the Fixed option and set the exact size of the selection you want.
Open one of your Photos, Select All, and Copy. Go back to your Montage and in the selected area use the Paste Fit into Selection and paste the photograph.
Create a new Selection, make them different sizes if you need to, and copy each photo into each selection until you have all of the photos you want on the image.

Use the Selection Tool to move each Photograph into position. Then use the Arrange Order to make the photos come forward or go backward. This is a bit tricky but you can Group several photos at a time and move others around one at a time to get the right layered sequence of Objects.

You can look most of these Tool up in the Help files for additional help.

Thank you, Keen! Other than processing/editing photos, I've learned little else about PI7, despite the fact that I've had it for several years. I don't even know how to make a background, although I looked through my books on the subject last night. I couldn't find much about backgrounds, although I did see something about making a canvas, but even that wasn't clear. Obviously, if I can't even make a background (am used to just importing my photos and editing them, nothing else), I can't make a collage of photos. :(

However, since the word "collage" also isn't mentioned in either book, I looked up "montage" and "composite," which also aren't mentioned. However, there are sections on "Insert Image Object" and "Merge Objects Into the Base Image." I thought perhaps these might help, but I don't fully understand them. :?

I'm disabled and homebound, and run a small mail order business right here from my bed. I've had to learn practically everything I know about the computer by trial and error, with the help of books, product tutorials (which are often so confusing, I just give up, and that includes PI), and questioning anyone who might help. I wish I could just take a few classes, as those would probably teach me what I need, but, alas, that's just not possible. I'm usually pretty good at following step-by-step instructions, but when I can't figure out the terminology used, I'm still lost...and very /i] frustrated.

I'd gladly pay someone to come to my home to teach me, but try to find somebody who's local who knows PI7 (or many of the other programs I use to get me through the day). Does anyone know of someone who gives private lessons over the 'Net?~Bountifully, Fuchsia

There are several user created tutorials for creating a collage and one is specifically for PI7. You might want to try some of these:

Blended Images

and there are several more that you can find by checking the Tutorials Search Engine at http://pircnet.com - it has all PI tutorials listed.
