Menu Display Bug in WinDVD that comes with MF4

Post by nyco_ork »

Just for your info, I've found a display bug in the WinDVD ver. 5 software that comes included with MF 4 (which I just purchased a month ago, so this is the most recent version). I know the bug is in the WinDVD software, because I have an earlier build of WinDVD on my other computer, and it does not exhibit the problem.

The problem build (Ver 5.0DXVA B11.795) exhibits the following behavior in menus: The selection frame, the one that moves from button to button as you pass the mouse over each button, jumps out of alignment vertically by half a frame. This happens with each and every button. It happens whether the disc was authored in MF 4 or MyDVD. Also, the problem build does not exhibit this behavior with commercial DVDs, only with home-authored DVDs, whether or not they are played on a DVD-R burner or on a DVD-ROM drive.

Since I have an older build of WinDVD (Ver 5.0DXVA B11.233), I plan to uninstall the version that came with MF4 and reinstall the older one, which was overwritten without warning during the MF4 installation. The earlier version came with my burner. It works fine.

Fortunately, I have not seen this behavior on actual TV systems or standalone players. It is strictly a software issue with WinDVD. I will forward the info to the Ulead support people, since they are bundling the player with the authoring software.

The most recent WinDVD version should be WinDVD 7. You can find its info in http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/WinDVD_Profile.jsp

Thanks, H.T.

I forwarded my bug info to Ulead, and they've responded that they're forwarding it to WinDVD. Ver. 7 is not what Ulead is bundling with Movie Factory. I presume they want the bundled software to work properly.

I'll be curious to see how people get along with WinDVD 7. Right now I'm a little worn out from all the upgrading I've done recently. I rolled WinDVD 5 back to the previous version, and it's working fine for my needs. Luckily I had it. I only use it to compare previous versions of my DVDs with updated versions I'm authoring.
