Nature of the problem:
The mpeg track is audible when played as a clip but not when the project is played. Separate voice and music tracks play OK as clips and as project. Also, the mpeg track is not audible in project playback or in a created video file.
Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?):
Format: NTSC DVD
Type: MPEG-2 Video, Upper Field First
Attributes: 24 bits, 720x480, 4:3
Frame rate: 29.970 frames/sec
Data rate: 6000 kbps
Audio: LPCM
Attributes: 48000 Hz, 16 bit stereo
Layer: blank
Bit rate: blank
The mpeg file was not captured directly by VideoStudio but was separately captured to mpeg with an Adaptec VideOh,
What devices are involved and their mode of connection? None, I guess - no capture.
Project Settings: I think you already have this info above.
Output format (videofile, DVD)
Error Codes (if any): None
System information (In my User Profile). I have VideoStudio 9.00.0000
Hear mpeg track audio when played as clip but not as project

So how did you get it onto your computer? I know you captured it to something with the Adaptec. Is the Adaptec connected to your computer? If so how, USB or Firewire, or other means? The mpeg file was not captured directly by VideoStudio but was separately captured to mpeg with an Adaptec VideOh,

The file does seem to be DVD compliant, MPEG2. Have you tried playing it using another media player, like Ulead DVD Player, or Windows Media Player? Does the sound play in them?
Those being blank probably has everything to do with your problem. I just looked at one of my MPEG2 files and those fields reflect Layer 2, and Bit Rate: 224. Why they are blank I don't know..Layer: blank
Bit rate: blank

Hello, Ron,
Thanks for your reply.
The file was captured on another computer and I copied it to this PC.
It does play in Media Player with the audio fine. The file properties as given in Media Player are:
Bit Rate: 1,117.84 Mbps
Video codec: Ulead DVD Video decoder 2
Audio codec: Cyberlink Audio decoder
The odd behavior is that in VideoStudio the clip plays fine, but the project is silent. Another thing: In the Audio View the rubber band is right in the middle indicating there is sound in the file.
I did a work around of extracting the audio and then putting that in the voice track. It worked but is not a solution I want in the long term as I have hours of captured video that I plan to work on.
The blank layer and bit rate (this info came from the file properties as viewed in VideoStudio bear further investigation. Though, as given above Media Player did give a bit rate - no layer, though. I need to try an mpeg file from another source and see what the audio behavior is.
Regards,
Bruce
