I was wondering if anyone was having problems with the Mask transtion in VS9. I find that when I put a transition ie. the snowflake or the stars, or the baseballs, or anyone of them between two pictures....on the video track, I find that they play perfectly during the project playback, but when I create an mpeg or video file of my project, that the shape of the mask transition changes. It seems to narrow. I've only used this transition between photos. My photo sizes are all 720x480 and 200 dpi. These transitions look pretty cool when you play back the project....but when I see them rendered, I often go back to the project and remove them, because they look so odd.
any thoughts on this would be appreciated!
thanks, Ilene

I can verify your results. I did a highlight video of my son's team and inserted the basketball mask and noticed the same thing you are experiencing. Because I programmed mine to move in a quick swirl pattern it wasn't that noticable, so I never looked into the problem.

I tend to use the swirl a lot too...and I've noticed just the same. I was hoping that there was some setting about "preserving aspect ratio" or something like that, but there is nothing as far as I can tell. It's too bad, because it's a pretty useful transition!
Hopefully by raising the question, we'll be able to figure something out.

FWIW, I can also confirm the problem. I have just been experimenting with Mask C, using both the baseball and snowflake masks, and also varying the few things that can be varied in customising the mask (X, Y, Inverse, and the interval, size and direction). I also tried both 4:3 and 16: 9 aspect ratios, and my setting was PAL DVD. Plays perfectly in project mode, yet nothing seems to alter the squishing effect in the rendered mpeg-2 file.
I have to confess I had never used the mask transitions before, so was unaware of the problem, but will now add it to the album transition as a good idea badly executed.

mask transition
HI Ken...thanks for looking into this for me. Puzzling isn't it? I guess if you are comparing this issue to the Album Transition, that Ulead offers no explanation as to why this feature doesn't work??? Such a shame, it seems like a fun and useful feature! Maybe this will bring it to their attention...
by the way,you might want to look at the album transition in the canopus package I referred you to...I think they have one that works well. They also have a transiton that moves picture frames in and out.....and a customizable film strip, which works nicely too.
Best regards, Ilene

Thanks Ilene. I had already found them immediately after installing the package, plus the Frames one (substituting one framed photo for another) and all work excellently! And thank goodness we can link them to VS9 (and other editing packages). My comments in this thread were confined specifically to the Ulead transitions.
