OK Steve, I trust you.
But I've always seen mobos start correctly until boot with no hard disk connected. Then the beep tango begins of course.
But if you've experimented otherwise, I stand corrected.

So let's see...I removed the DVD burner and attached the hard drive to IDE2. Nothing.
I removed all cables (HHD, DVD, FDD) and tried to boot per you suggestion. Nothing.
Now, the jumper next to my wafer battery only has two leads. There is no jumper on it. It is the clear CMOS jumper. Is this the jumper you are talking about? If so, should I clear it? Should I replace the battery?
Maybe I'll buy one of those enclosures...
Thanks again for the help!

I had exactly the same problem last year, and had tried most of the previous suggestions in testing the various elements of my computer. Finally, I reached the same stage as you: mobo and/or cpu. The only way I could test the latter was to find a willing friend who had a computer which would support my particular cpu. And it worked. That left the mobo, and on pulling it out and inspecting its surface closely, I found two points where there were signs of slight burning... No idea what caused it, and of course I had to replace it.

Yes I was talking about clearing the CMOS. If it still wouldnt start after disconnecting everything excpet the bare minimum power supply, RAM, Processor and Video Card it must be one of those items. Sorry but at least it's been narrowed down.msheldon wrote:So let's see...I removed the DVD burner and attached the hard drive to IDE2. Nothing.
