Video Studio 8 capture problems
Hello I am glad I found this site. I have Video studio 8 when I capture from my Sony Digital camcorder I get video but NO audio. I am using Plextor convertx av100 to capture to my computer. It works with windvd but not with this? Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks

The most likely cause is that your camcorder records the audio in Dolby which is not natively supported by VS8. The cost of the plug in is almost the same as an upgrade to VS9 which will support Dolby.
Having said that you would be advised to wait a short while longer if possible because VS10 will soon be released. Alternatively there is a competition currently in progress where you can try and win a copy of VS10 following its release. The link to the competition is at the bottom right below this post.

All is not lost there are a couple of things you can try.
Suggestion 1.
Download the 30 day trial of VideoStudio9
http://www.ulead.co.uk/vs/trial.htm
Suggestion 2.
Capture with your WinDVD and then use a program to convert the audio.
One such program is "Super" listed in our links to 'free stuff'

Exactly what model Sony is your camera? Does it use a DV cassette tape, or a mini DVD disc? In either case, though, I am not sure why you are using the Plextor device to capture from it. If it is a DV camera, then you should be connecting via a Firewire cable (called iLink by Sony), and capturing to DV format for the best results. If the camera is a mini-DVD model, then normally you would capture by using the mini DVD disc directly in your computer, or copying or importing directly from that disc onto your computer...

Where on earth do you live that a 'DV cable' (by which I assume you mean the Firewire/ilink cable) would cost $50???
I suspect you may be talking about a Sony-branded cable, and would not be surprised since Sony has an enormous mark-up on all of its branded peripherals. (With their still cameras, they even use a proprietary size on the USB plug that goes into the camera, but as far as I am aware, this does not happen with vidcameras or the standard size plugs on the firewire cables.) I have a Sony digital camcorder too and use Firewire on it, and can assure you that you can buy much cheaper, no-name firewire cables at a computer store for less than half that price. Here in Australia they cost around A$20 (US$15), and for A$35 - $40 you can buy a Firewire card which comes with a cable for insertion into your computer if you don't have a firewire port on it. The only thing you have to bear in mind is that the computer port will usually be the larger 6-pin variety, while the camera uses the smaller 4-pin plug -- both sizes are standard. So when you buy the cable, make sure you specify that you want a 6 to 4 pin variety.

I would check the connector style to make absolutely sure -- there are desktops (like many Sony VAIOs) that have 4-pin Firewire connectors, and there are laptops that have 6-pin connectors.
It's easier to spend 30 seconds checking than to make a return trip or pay a restocking fee / shipping charges.

I didn't know exactly where to put my specs on my profile page but here is it it is a SONY Model DCR-trv250. By the way the price I quoted from was at Best Buy. I'm going to try the suggestions now. The super download seems complicated maybe its just the site that has a lot of reading involved. I may just try the trial version of Vs9

Now why didn't you say so in the first place! Its almost the same camcorder as mine I have the next model up the TRV-255E
All you need to do is connect the camcorder to the computer with an IEEE1394 (Sony call it an i-Link) Your camcorder didn't come with one, it came with a USB lead - best place for the USB lead is definately the dustbin, take it from a person with an almost identical camcorder.
Once connected with a firewire cable the rest is childs play.
With the camcorder turned OFF, Open VideoStudio Editor. goto the capture tab and turned the camcorder ON in playback mode.
Your camcorder gets detected. The boxes for capture type will automatically go into DV capture mode, about the only thing you need to do is decide where your going to save the capture to. Hit the Record Icon on the computer screen then sit back and enjoy.
