The 0x80040154 error is a error related with the system. It means some DLLs of the application cannot be installed and registered properly.

Usually it would be required to reinstall the software. Please use an administrator account in Windows 2000/XP/XP x64/2003 to install the software because there are some limitations when you use Limited User or Power User account to install softwares.

Hope this helps.

DVD Movie Factory 5

Post by DSHolloway »

Received notification of DVD M.FACT. 5 availability and tried to download the upgrade to my version 4.2. I was interested in the photo to video aspects as I have previously used Memories-to-TV which is very good and has the best help support I have found.
The Upgrade download led me in circles and always ended up in the American site so I never did get it. E-mailed Ulead and asked for help and received no reply, not an uncommon experience with Ulead support. Has anybody ever received a response from Ulead? One of the worst support sites I have come across, even when one is trying to purchase their products!
Get a grip Ulead or you will lose customers, just take a look at Mem-to TV for an example of how it should be done!

can we move back to my original post

Post by thermosdragon »

With respect to users having probs finding the trial software that is not my problem as you can see from the original post, however I will say it was easily found and downloaded.

OK so back to my installation problems, I only have one user account which is administrator, this is my personal system at home and no one else uses it so it's all fully open to me as administrator.

I have installed it on my wifes system and it installed fine so I agree the dl if fine etc. her system is winxp 32 bit, mine is win64 but with exactly the same items installed

I have and can install ver 4 fine on mine but still get this error with ver 5, I've tried all the obvious things, closing virus programs etc and nothing else runniong but cannot overcome it.

Are you sure it installs ok on win64, can anyone confirm this for me?

Here is the details of the error

Error Code: -5009 : 0x80040154
Error Information:
>Ctor\ObjectWrapper.cpp (389)
>Kernel\Component.cpp (875)
>Kernel\CABFile.cpp (263)
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1611)

any help much appreciated

thanks

Thank you all for the response to my problem with DVD MovieFactory 5. I will try to clarify my experience. I followed the links to download & pay for the upgrade to my version 4.2 but seemed to run into a return loop which, when I did get out of it ended with the page payment in $s and not in £s. In effect it had gone from a UK site into an American site.
After four attempts I gave up and e-mailed Ulead who did not respond and as I said not for the first time, they are not good in responding to 'help'. I shall attempt to access the Version 5 again soon and let you know how I get on.

Have you tried a 'clean re-install' by uninstalling as per the 5th post down

What I am getting at is that you have a "Failed installation" and so bits of it are still stuck there in various parts of your computer and registry.

You need to removed all traces of the "Failed install" before trying again.

argh ok, yep have tried that a few times and in response have just tried it again, removed all signs in the registry manually, ran regedit & pc bug doctor, cleared all temp folders just in case, removed the extracted ulead dvd moviefactory 5 folder and started again

sorry but exactly the same.

OK, going back to the reply by Htchien there appears to be a problem with windows not registering the dll files etc.
This should show up in the windows XP error message log.
from the windows START button select RUN and paste the following line
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
then press enter.

Now check the two folders
Application
Security

You are looking for entries with a red circle and white cross.
Double click those entries and you get a description of the error.
more specifically you get:

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

You need to double click that link which also contains some hidden code relating to your error. This will take you to the Microsoft Help Centre where you will get detailed information about that error and suggested cures.

Try this first.

ok for that thanks

However found nothing at all relating to this install problem, when I do an install it doesn't even shown in either application or security and yes I did refresh it.

(Mind ya it did show me another problem I didn't know I had with tiny firewall so it was useful and fixed it)

it simply does not show anything when I've tried to install dvdmf5, tried several times and refreshed etc. but nothing recorded.

No other red X recorded.

OK then try this:
When you downloaded the trial (I have the full version - but this should work the same) You were given a link to a file. I take it that you are currently installing from that file.
Using a utility like winzip, extract that file to a Hard Drive Folder.
This should create a number of sub-directories and a file named setup.exe
Try running this extracted file.
