This may be a dumb question but it happens to me.
1. I capture using the DV-1 make a project and then in output I select DVD. The DVD disk plays fine on my computer. I can put it in my VCR/DVD player, select DVD which then reads it and the main screen comes up and then I simply hit play and it does fine. I have two friends who put the same disk in their DVD player and it does not play. Any suggestions?
2. Next question. If somebody only has a VCR player can I just burn to VCR and they be able to play in their VCR.
3. Finally, if I create a video file and later burn can I burn once to
DVD off of the Video file and again to VCR off of the same video file.
Making a Playable DVD

If the disk doesn't play in a standalone DVD player, it may be that the type of media you used is not compatible with the DVD player. Many standalones do not support any rewriteable media, and most only handle DVD-R media or DVD+R media that has been burned with a booktype of DVD-ROM.
I use DVD+R media for data projects (backups and archiving files), but for any video DVDs, I use DVD-R media exclusively because the compatibility is so much better.
I'm not sure what you mean by VCR player -- are you talking about VHS tape, or did you mean VCD (Video CD)? If it's the latter, you can burn VCDs and SVCDs with UVS using normal CD-R media, and they will play fine on VCD-compatible players. SVCD quality is roughly equivalent to VHS tape quality.

Thanks for quick reply. I use DVD-R so maybe not acceptable their players. After I got your note I pulled up a project and burned to VCD and put in my VCR/DVD player which is very new and changed inputs on TV and it worked fine. I will go and try and their players tomorrow. One thing I did note was the VCD burned much faster than if burning to DVD.

The bitrate of VCDs and SVCDs is much lower than that of DVDs, so there is less data to write for the same length movie -- that's why it burns in less time.
The other thing I forgot to mention earlier is that for maximum compatibility and compliance with the DVD spec, you should put a minimum of 1GB of data on each DVD disk. If you don't, some standalone players may not recognize the disk. UVS has a setting for this called "Quick Eject".
If Quick Eject is ON, the disk is ejected immediately after the video has been written to disk, even if it contains less than 1GB of data. If Quick Eject is OFF, UVS will pad the disk with an extra video segment that is not actually accessible from the DVD's program chain. Thus, you should leave Quick Eject OFF. The setting is in the final screen of the "Create Disk" process under "Burner Advanced Settings".
