No Sound using MPG in MovieFactory
Sound when I import avi files but no sound when I import mpg files. Pretty hard to set chapters if you can't hear anything. Any ideas as to solution?
A file with MPEG-encoded video can have audio encoded in various formats. (The same is true for AVI.)
Do you know what audio format you have on your MPEGs? The 3 most common are LPCM, MPEG-2, and Dolby AC3.
What version of Movie Factory do you have? The trial versions (and some older versions, and maybe the SE versions) don't have an AC3 codec. So, if you import a DVD with Dolby AC3, you won't hear the sound.
BTW - If you have a choice, you should generally avoid MPEG! It's OK if you already have an MPEG-2 file and you want to put it directly on a DVD without messing with it. But, it's difficult to capture to MPEG in real-time, and MPEGs are not meant to be edited.
