Capture from DVD- No Audio

Post by sg »

Hello,

I have a Sony DVD recorder and am trying to capture some video clips I have recorded on it in Ulead. I use the "Import from DVD" option under file, import. However, there is no audio when I try to edit the clips in Ulead. But, there is audio, when I play the captured file in Media Player and Movie Maker. Any ideas?

I am using Video Studio 8, and Windows Media Player 10.

My computer specs are: Windows XP Home, 2.1 GHz AMD Processor (3000+), 512MBs Ram, 64 MBs video card (integrated), 160GB hard drive.

If your camera records to a mini-DVD, then the audio will be Dolby AC-3 and VS8 cannot deal with Dolby without a plug-in. The Ulead plug-in costs almost as much as the upgrade to VS9, which can handle Dolby and generally is much better than VS8.

Hi,

There is no camera involved. I use the DVD recorder to tape TV or VCR programs over composite. In this manner, I can transfer movies from VHS to a menued DVD, with editing, with the DVD recorder.

Do you think this recorder use the same audio as a mini-DVD camera?

Thanks.

Sorry -- my misreading of your original post. But it is still highly likely that your recorder is using Dolby audio which VS 8 cannot deal with. What does the recorder manual say about the audio format(s) it uses? If you want, you could also experiment by downloading the free AC-3 filter which you can find here http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=186 This filter will allow you at least to download Dolby into another audio format which VS8 can use, but it won't let you re-encode the final DVD using Dolby.
