DMF5 Product Feedback Request

Post by phd »

Well, this is pretty stupid.

Ulead sends me a request to give them feedback on DMF 5 trial which I was disappointed in. Crashed too frequently to be considered usable. (HT Chien did you ever read my response to your query?)
We're just checking back with you to find out how your test run with Ulead DVD MovieFactory was and would very much like to hear what you think about the product.
Please send us your product-related comments. We'd like to remind you that you have only a few days left for the trial, so don't delay, take this opportunity and purchase the latest version or upgrade your old software now.
The link for automated reply to comment was for MSP with no choice for DMF!

Hi Phd,

Sorry I missed your post for I'm very busy these days.

Can you describe the problem again, including the points mentioned in http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8960 ?

Also please let me know how many softwares and video/audio codec packs you installed in your system. That might help.

Thanks and best regards,
H.T.

My original post and response regarding DMF5 is here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... c&start=45

DMF1,2,3 and 4 all have worked fine on this machine.

Ulead apparently does not proof read their emails regarding responses to trial versions as mentioned in my first post on this thread.

Nor could they bother to followup on the customer support email for MSP7 which is why I wouldn't touch MSP8:
Case #6846: Video Paint
UPTR:305040:MediaStudio Pro 7 - Video Paint

Nelson Duay is the person originally (mis)handling the the support issue.

Hi phd,

Sorry I miss your case. I will see what I can do with it.

Can you let me know how do you check the properties of the MPEG file? It seems very detailed. However, I never see a PS-MPEG2 file before, are you sure it's generated by Ulead products?

For MSP7, you can let me know the issue also.

Best regards,
H.T.

Hi HT,

The file information is from VideoReDo. It is the only editor that would let me consistently create in-sync DVDs using Movie Factory.

PS means it is a Program Stream (standard definition multiplexed audio and video) as opposed to HD, transport stream or elementary streams.

I have used VideoReDo with the Hauppauge PVR250 recordings consistently without issue through DMF1, 2, 3, and 4.

The original issue with MSP7 was with VideoPaint:
I try to open the sample, create a new document or load a video into Video Paint. I get an error "Failed to Create Empty Document." I tried on a couple of my systems and still get the same message.

I tried a variety of files as well as your demos and nothing works.
Nelson Duay responded to me with the suggestion uninstall and reinstall.
Maybe some of the files in your MediaStudio Pro's installed software are not functioning, or one of the file is missing or has been corrupted and need to be replaced. Then please logon as Administrator and try the following suggestions to fix:

1)Purge the temp files in 'C:\Document and settings\[username]\Local setings\Temp' directory
2)Uninstall MSP 7 from control panel Add/Remove programs 3)Please del the folder "Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7" folder in C:\program files\ulead system 4)Install MSP 7 again (and please don't install the MSP 7.01 patch or MSP SP2 patch if you have)
5)Run the MSP 7 SP3 patch that you can download from our website;
http://www.ulead.com/tech/msp/msp_ftp.htm
6)Make sure you have the latest WinXP compliant driver for your VGA card, sound controller and capture device which you can download from the internet.

Please avoid the unnecessary conflict, temporarily turn off all applications includes anti virus, norton utilities, or the other memory resident program and the Internet connection etc. before you run MediaStudio Pro. Best regards,
-Nelson Duay, Product News
I responded back that this did not work and he sent me the same reply to uninstall and reinstall a second time. I have not heard from him since despite multiple times trying to get a response.
2 months later I get an automated email:
Sorry, due to we moved to a new email system so we're not able to continue our support using the previous email system.

Can you please give me more details about the problem. Thank you.

Case #:6846
I replied back and have not heard from Ulead again. I spent a lot of money to purchase Studio Quartet. Since they can't provide tech support for MSP7, needless to say I have no desire to upgrade to MSP8, nor do I make product recommendations for it anymore.

Sorry for this late reply, still a little busy these days.

I just did some test with VP but I still cannot regenerate your problem.

I start VP.
I open a VP sample, it opened without any problem.
I close the sample and open another one, still OK.

Honestly I do not know what's happening in your system....

As I know no other users had repoerted to Ulead about this VP issue before. Since you are the one that have the problem, maybe there is some application installed in your system conflicted with VP?

For DVDMF 5 issue, from my experience there are some users reported that some VRD version will cause Ulead products to crash. They solved it by using another video editor to edit the video or some other video converter to convert the file. Maybe your case is the same one. If you do not use VRD to edit video and let DVDMF import the captured video, will it work? (I know you would say it works with DVDMF 3 amd 4, but maybe you can give it a try?)

Again, sorry for the late reply.

Best regards,
H.T.

Actually, it has been reported before. The old forum was purged of posts about every 6 months so there is no record there.

This has been listed in the past as "Failed to create empty document" and with older versions as "Failed to create blank document."

First the trial period for DMF5 is expired.

Second, a search using "VideoReDo" and "crash" only show 4 posts on this forum and VideoReDo was offered as the solution and not the problem.

What is your experience with VideoReDo?

Before using it I constantly had AV sync problems authoring with DMF and also "Some chapter points exceed total number of frames."

Hi,

Are you using Windows 2000? After I search the error message on the net, I found the following links.

Some possible answers:

http://www.brooksnet.com/faq/514-06.html
http://support.installshield.com/kb/vie ... id=Q108255
http://www.computing.net/windows95/wwwb ... 62305.html
http://www.mcse.ms/message792188.html

"Why do I get a "Failed to create empty document" error?
A common cause of this is that your system's riched32.dll is either incorrect or corrupted. Information is available here on how to fix it."

Virus issue:

http://discuss.pcmag.com/forums/32571009/ShowPost.aspx

Low memory issue:

http://ptforum.photoolsweb.com/showflat ... &Main=8856

Maybe you can check if any of them would help.

Hope this helps.

I must admit that I have no experience with VideoReDo.

Maybe I'm wrong. I will download a trial of VRD and check if DVDMF5 has a issue with VRD video. However, I do not have the source you use so the result might not be identical.

BTW, are you a VRD guy? :)

DMF5 problem - The file I was using was the original unedited file as captured by the Hauppauge PVR250 using the WinTV2K software. It was not edited in VRD. The file information was simply posted from the properties listing in VRD

MSP7 VideoPaint problem - Windows XP SP1 machine, P4 2.4, 768MB RAM. (I also have this issue on a second machine that is Windows XP SP1 machine, P4 1.6, 256MB RAM.)

Does VideoPaint attempt to open HTML or notepad documents when it is started a new project or loading the demo? Both IE and notepad work fine on the machines.

I will review the DLL item.
