Sorry for cross-posting, but I am not sure how many people look at the Contest Information site.
Some people on this Board have been a little concerned about previous competitions sponsored by Ulead, and particularly what sort of criteria are used in judging the final results. The lack of transparency is a particular concern. Are there any plans to make this new PhotoImpact Blog contest more transparent that way?

John thank you for asking. I also discussed this issue with Ulead as there were complaints after the last competition that some winners were unable to download their prize.
Ulead have informed me that they are looking into the matter and hope to increase their bandwidth to cure this anomoly.

Steve,
Ulead clearly doesn't understand the problem: They can't increase my bandwidth.
They should ship boxed versions with printed manuals! Downloading software of several hundred MB is a problem even for high speed lines. Moreover, when you transmit that much information, there is a good probability that at least one byte will be transmitted incorrectly.
We see problems that new user have with downloaded trial versions every day on this forum.

As far as I am aware this is only the second competition organised by Ulead.
Clearly lessons were learned from the first competition. No doubt more lessons will be learned from the current competition.
I feel though that we should commend Ulead in their efforts in providing a competition to the users of this Board. After all they are not obliged to.
By providing these competitions I feel they are creating a united atmosphere where we users can share our skills and creative abilities with other members of the forum.
Ulead are aware that there were problems with the voting procedure during the last competition. I have worked with Ulead at attempting to find a solution to that problem and have already given a response to that issue here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=12885
Ulead are also aware of the problems experienced by some of the winners of the last competition attempting to download their prizes.
I can assure you that Ulead are making positive steps to try and avoid a repeat of this problem.
My brother in law has a saying which may sum all of this up:
Is your glass half full or is your glass half empty?

Steve,
I figure that we users on this forum have saved Ulead a few million dollars in support costs over the last several years. Fully burdened labor costs are in the range of a couple of hundred thousand dollars per man-year. We have intercepted many tens of thousands of problems that Ulead would otherwise have had to pay people to deal with.
Even if you calculate a figure one tenth of the above SWAG, you have to wonder why Ulead couldn't cough up a few dollars to snail-mail boxed versions of their products. After all, the mfg. cost is only the CD and the printed manual.
Ulead needs to be made aware that they would benefit greatly by displaying a good deal more gratitude to the volunteers on this forum than they have in the past.
