Capture HD on Sony HDR-HC1E
Has anyone actually captured HD using this camera? I haven't been able to use VS9 as 'source' only shows MSDV even although HD patch is installed. Camera set to HDV iLink out....any ideas?
Changing capture plug in to HD in 'Tools' has no effect. Works perfectly in normal MSDV capture...
Thanks, Ed

Ed,
Welcome aboard.
For general guidance with Video Studio, see http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=27
For HD tutorial using HC1, see, http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=9854
If you also installed the mpeg4 plugin, you messed up the HD plug. Try installing the HD plugin again.

Check the settings on your camera you might have the iLink conversion set to On HDV ->DV. Also in the Play/Edit mode your camera should be set to HDV not DV.
If the camera is set to DV it will show up in your device manager as a imaging device. If it is setup to HDV it will show up in the device manager under Sound, Video and Game Controllers as a A/VC tape device.
Once Windows has detected your device properly you should be able to use it in VS9.

iLink converter was off, still can't capture.
My computer hangs after I press the capture video button and a screen pops up saying something about changing field order to "Upper Field First". I have followed all the instructions in the tutorials (including the HDV tutorial), and I have changed the plug in to HDV under the tools setting.
I checked my camera, and it is set to HDV, not auto or DV. The iLink converstion has always been off.
Does anybody have any suggestions (aside from trading in my camera please)? Please.
I'm using the downloaded upgrade from version 9 to 10, with a Sony HDR-HC1 on a HP Media Center PC with 2 gigs RAM and 2 hard drives (capturing to 2nd drive).

Hi, Trevor
You solved it!
The I-Link conversion was set to 'On' on my camera.
The moment I switched it to 'Off' VS10+ recognised my camera as HD and only offered me the MPEG capture option. I'm back in business!
The very good news (for me) is that I also know what happened.
Just before Xmas copied some film onto a friend's computer and, as they could only edit SD tape, I switched the I-link conversion on. And then forgot all about it.
This means (I think) that all my other stuff is captured and edited in High Def - phew! Also explains why I was so convinced that VS10+ could 'see' my camcorder and was surprised when I checked again to see 'Sony MSDV'.
Anyway, you're persistence has removed the risk of me investing countless hours over the next few months editing AVI files and then wondering why they were not High Def at some point in the future.
Trevor, I can't thank you enough. You're a star.
And who needs guru John anyway!

Hi Max
Cannot take the credit for the I-link conversion thingy.
Not having a HD camera is a bit of a restriction to my knowledge.
I was a little confused with the formats you were using in the other post (why two posts)
Its just a learning curve, but now you seem to be on the way upwards.
I think all the above posters needs a pat on the back.
To answer the last question, we all need John ( I know it was just a joke)
Good Luck
Stick in there
