PAL Video Capture In A NTSC VCR - Any Tricks?

Post by oka »

Having only the American style VCR player, is there any other trick or method on playing a VCR tape to be able to capture the video into my PC. Video Editing software has setting for PAL, the issue is hardware. I know it is not possible, but you never know what someone might know. Instead of buying a PAL VCR, is there an adapter?
Thanks

This is a hardware related problem and not software.
The hardware circuitry will only have tuners for either NTSC or PAL.
software will enable you to view/capture the other format but only in monochrome.

PAL and NTSC are not compatable, one type will not play in another. You can buy a multi-function VCR that will do both and you might be able to capture video in both formats.

When I was stationed in Germany I had a VCR the would do both PAL and NTSC but it was about four times the price of a standard NTSC or PAL VCR.

There is no other way I know of to capture PAL->NTSC.

I thought so. I was just curious since I have been surprised by some of the things I have found out there. Thanks everyone for the reply.

Most PAL players, the newer ones, can play both, NTSC and PAL but, unless the TV can interpret both signals as well, NTSC will play monochrome.
