VS 9 can't seem to find my DVD burner
Hello all,
Been trying to burn a DVD and at the last "share" stage, VS9 just displays the hour glass and I have to turn off my computer to regain control.
I have tried all of the hints in the sticky posts, I have been using Ulead software since version 4, so I am quite comfortable with how it works.
This is the first time with a new computer, as I just got the camera last week.
I also tried to just burn one of the Ulead samples as well ,and the same thing occurs. I also tried to burn a sample using VS8 that is still on my computer and again I only get the hour glass and I have to manually turn off the computer. I CAN burn DVD's using other software (Sonic Record Now 7) but the Sonic software won't recognise Ulead files. So I know the burner works. Sorry if this is longwinded, but I wanted to supply as much info as possible. Any help appreciated and thanks in advance-Bill

This sounds like the classic packet writing software problem.
You need to disable any "drag and drop" style CD/DVD writing software to enable VideoStudio to take control of your burner

Not sure what you mean
Steve thanks for the fast reply. I am not sure what:
"You need to disable any "drag and drop" stule CD/DVD writing software"
means. Should that be suite not stule and how do I go about disableing them?
I DO have 2 "Drag & Drop" programs by Sonic and Roxio.
Do I just remove them or is there another fix?
Thanks again,
Bill

Sorry, I have ammended my typo to style, currently using a keyboard thats in use 24/7 and about time out I.T. Dept gave us a new one!
Check the system tray (bottom right of screen by the TIME - right click and either exit or disable). Also you can check the Start | Programs | Startup folder to see if they are listed and so can be removed/moved eslewhere top prevent automatic start up.
If they are not there try the Windows Registry at
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
If you are still unable to locate the automatic startup location then run Msconfig.

The Roxio program I am pretty sure can be disabled internally, but I am not sure about the Sonic one. The other program which can cause problems is Nero InCD, though that one cannot be internally disabled and has to be uninstalled. Essentially, the problem is that these sorts of program in effect take over the burner drive and won't allow other programs proper access to it. These other programs include Video Studio. I had InCD installed, and had this problem. Once InCD was uninstalled, I regained full control over the burner.

Still no luck
Well, I removed all of the "drag & drop" DVD software and I still have the problem. SO, does anyone know if VS 10 will eliminate this problem?
I don't mind waiting if it will. I realize it has not been relealised yet, but has anyone received advance information?
Thanks for all of the suggestions. Maybe I am doing something wrong so I am hoping VS 10 will help,
Bill

VS 9 can't seem to find my DVD burner
My system has just developed an identical problem. Everything has been working fine, burning discs just perfectly, but all of a sudden without any obvious changes to the system, it now hangs at the hourglass every time I go to write a disc. I have to re-boot to get control of the pc again.
As far as I know, I have no drag and drop or any other CD Writing software active. I've deleted and re-installed US9 but the same problem exists.
I'm totally at a loss as to what to do next, and what little hair I did have is disappearing very quickly !! Help !
Phil

Another possibility is that you have the Sony rootkit on your system that is intended to eliminate or reduce piracy -- the rootkit interferes with CD and DVD burning.

If you don't trust Sony to remove the rootkit completely and correctly (and you shouldn't), download Rootkit Revealer from

to check your system.
