Fade in (transition) in overlay track vs9

Post by leocat »

I'm going crazy here! About 3 months ago I created a video that has a still image of a person in the video track. I put another image of another person in the overlay track. I sized the two images so I could get a morph of one to the other (an age progression thing - I turned my friend into an old guy- some friend eh?)

Anyway, at the time it seemed so easy to do. Now I'm trying to do a similar project and I can't see what I did, even looking at the original project.

1) the image in the video track is a straight still image
2) The image in the overlay track somehow fades FROM black to the final image.
3) The fade in/out attributes are not checked. I can do this age progression thing using the fade in, but it's fast and much less dramatic.
4) I looked at the mask/chromakey area and nothing here seems to be checked.
5) It doesn't appear to have any of the video filters attached either.
6) When I move the overlay track (the one that fades in) to the video track I lose the fade in. When I move it back down to overlay I get the fade in again.
7) I pulled another still image into the overlay track - that did NOT get the fade in.

So it appears that I did something to the overlay still image that allowed me to do a fade in on it so I could do the morph thing with the image in the main video track. It seemed so easy at the time I did it, now I have no idea how I got that effect.

Any help would be appreciated!

Use the Fade-In option, but under the Preview Window (make sure you are in CLIP mode - next to the PLAY button), move the left slider to the right for the overlay picture. This will control the duration of the Fade-in

Thanks George, it worked perfectly.

It's weird, my video from a few months ago doesn't have the fade in clicked but it works the same way as your advice. Maybe there is a 2nd way to get the same result?

Here's another way to do it (without the overlay track)

NOTE: you can adjust the timeframes to suit your needs

Put your first picture on the timeline
Put your second picture next to it on the same timeline
Put the "Crossfade" transition between the two pictures

Click on the each of the pictures, and make them run for about 7 seconds each
Click on the crossfade transition, and change it to something like 5 seconds

Play the project...

George
