Difficulty Adding Chapters Manually

Post by kdixit »

I am trying to create a DVD from my favourite TV reality show which has lots of songs. Each show is about 90 minutes long. I want to add chapters at each song. When I use the Jog bar in the edit window to scroll thru the video to find the song start, I don't see the video changing in real time in preview window. As soon as I drag the jog bar, video stops in preview and new frame does not show untill I stop draging. This way it is almost impossible to find the song start points. Of, course I can play the video and pause at song start to add chapters. This will take 90 minutes!
I have used TDAP and it allows to quickly scroll thru video in real time to add chapters.

Anybody know how to do the same in DVDW? Or workaround?
Thanks.

The point is that chapter points can be made only on I frames, which are usually every 12 or 15 frames or roughly every half-second. The quickest way to find an appropriate I frame is to use the jog bar to roughly where you expect a song to start and then use the next forward or backward I-frame buttons to find the place you want to set your chapter and repeat for the next song. This should not take more than about 20 seconds per chapter, if you have a reasonable foreknowledge how the clip is set out.

If you know the timecodes, enter the timecode to jump to the approximate chapter point...

Of course, if you edit in MSP8, you can set the chapter points while you are editing.

So the help file of MS 8 suggests. But how do I get them into DWS?
I usually use the File > Create > Video menu option and in creating the MPG file it seems to lose the cue points.

When you create your output from MSP, before clicking "save", click "options". On the video tab, of the options dialog box, choose the appropriate option under the heading "Key frame control"

In MSP8, go VIEW/DVD Chapter Point Manager -- then add your DVD Chapter Points to your timeline (these are not the CUE markers).

There is also a little triangle icon to the left of the Timeline -- it switches between the CUE and DVD Chapter Markers (BLUE or ORANGE)

Ok - found that. That little cue/chapter colour change was less than obvious on the screen. Good to know & use.

Added chapter cues. Does show in the DVD Chapter point manager.
When doing File > Create > Video file you add under "Options" > Video Editor > Key Frame > Add key frame at cue position.

Importing the file in DWS the import dialog box allows to see the chapter points by pressing on "Scenes.." button. Importing the file only shows 1 chapter (start).
You need to press "Add auto chapter" and select "Detect by scene" in order to get the list of chapter points. Without scanning for scenes, but simply accepting the ones shown, the cue points now show as chapters.

Simple if you know it. Why no manual mentions this is beyond me.

Thanks for the help!
