Which TV tuner capture card works best with Movie Factory 4
Since I've found out that Emuzed EvcapMaui Device is worthless with Ulead's Movie Factory, which TV tuner capture card works best with Movie Factory and is cheapest.
I can't give you a direct answer, but here's what I know.
I guess you know to avoid MPEG-only cards.
Get a card that will capture to AVI/DV. (I have a Hauppauge MPEG-only card.) MPEGs are not meant to be edited, and if you edit them with Ulead, you may get "lip-sync" problems, or worse.
For the capture step, plan on using the special capture software that comes with the capture card. With 3rd-party capture software (i.e. Ulead) it's "hit or miss". Analog capture is the trickiest part of this whole process, it seems like hardware-software compatability problems are common.
Once you have a digital file (in DV/AVI format) on your hard drive, you can use Movie Factory (or whatever digital video software you wish) to edit and author DVDs.
The ATI All-In-Wonder cards seem to be the most popular. (I think they start at about $150 and go waaaayyyy up for one that also has game-quality VGA output.) Pinnacle may be the 2nd most popular.

Not very familiar with all this stuff
I appreciate your help and response. I hate to be so ignorrant but I don't understand all this MPEG and DV/AVI lingo. All I know is I hate Sonic My DVD, so I bought Movie Factory hoping to be getting a system that would burn DVD's from live TV quicker. I didn't realize that HP put such cheap junk in this Media Center like Emuzed EvcapMaui Device. I started looking at TigerDirect and I am so confused. I don't know if I need a tuner card, a video card, a PCI card or what the heck I need. All I know is the Direct to DVD capture function does not work with this stupid Media Center. If Bill Gates and HP would build systems with good products, I wouldn't have this problem.
I don't know if you can read my profile, but if you can, maybe you could advise me with a product my system might work with. I appreciate all your help.

Some hardware vendors for Ulead products:
AVerMedia: http://www.avermedia.com
LeadTek WinFast series: http://www.leadtek.com/multimedia.html
Hauppauge: http://www.hauppauge.com
Compro USA: http://www.comprousa.com
ATi TV Wonder or ATi All-in-Wonder: http://www.ati.com
Personally I use LeadTek WinFast TV2000 XP Expert and it captures fine with both DVDMF 4 and DVDMF 5 on my system.
There are some more vendors but I cannot remember all of them now, sorry.
Hope this helps.

I have the Hauppauge 150 MCE card and use BeyondTV4 as the capture software in mpeg format. So far, I have had no problems of any kind, lip-sync or otherwise, using either MF 4.x SE or MF 5.0 for editing, formatting and DVD burning.DVDDoug wrote:I can't give you a direct answer, but here's what I know.

.
Incidentaly, MovieFactory gets me a completed DVD in about half the time that Nero does which is why I upgraded from the 4.x SE that was bundled with the capture card software.
Just my $0.02USD
