Possible bug in PI11 with mask
I have the new PhotoImpact 11. When I apply a layer mask to a photo, use the white to black gradient tool to select a gradient mask, then select “MASK” to change the mask into a gradient selection, and then select “LEVELS” (so I can apply correction to the selected photo), a severe brightness is applied to the entire photo. This occurs as soon as I select the “LEVELS” function, thus, ruining the photo. This also occurs when selecting any other “ADJUST, PHOTO OR EFFECT” function. This is a problem with the original PI 11 and with the latest patch applied.

Re., Possible bug in PI11 with mask
Thanks for your reply. Windows XP, Pen 4, 200 GB HD w/ 90 available, 1.3G RAM, Radium 9800 128, using PI11 in advanced mode. I have deleted PI 11 as per Ulead instructions, deleting all registry files and then reinstalled. Any help is appreciated since I use the masking/graduated function often to correct photos with flash abnormalities often.

Level function
That is what the level function does - it adjusts the white and black levels. If you adjust it too much then it will be blinding white and your photo will not be recognizable.
The autoprocess for the "Level" function usually does wonders but there are exceptional photos that will not be adjusted accordingly. Do it manually in this case. Do not use the auto process. CLick on the menu "PHoto -> Light -> Levels" then adjust it manually from there. You should be able to see it in preview so you can reset it or cancel the changes if it is a bit too much.

No..... I don't think you understand. The extreme brightness occurs automatically – before I even have a chance to manually adjust - when I select the LEVEL (not just “auto” LEVEL), or any other adjustment function. Even if I select the COLOR balance…. The brightness effect occurs over the entire photo as soon as I select the adjustment function.
