Capturing from video composite

Post by Alex H »

I recently bought Video Studio 9. I have tried to capture footage from my cannon analogue camera using the composite lead.

My computer has a yellow composite hole on the front, which I put the camera lead into. I bought an adapter to connect the white audio lead to the blue audio hole on the front (which is a head phone size). There are also pink and green holes.

The video & audio seem to caputure fine, however, when I come to play it back an error message comes up saying the programme has to close down. If I capture without the audio it seems to work. I've tried changing settings and disabling all programmes running in the background.

Any suggestions?

It is unusual for a computer to come with a video capture input. I have no idea why connecting the audio would cause a problem... even if you connect the audio incorrectly... :?

Tell us whatever you can about your computer. Is it a laptop? What kind of video capture card or chipset does it have?

What format did you capture to? AVI/DV is generally the best.

Take a look at the two posts at the top of the forum: READ THIS FIRST and RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE.

Most capture cards come with capture software especially designed to work with the hardware. You should generally use the capture software that came with the hardware. Once you have a digital video file on your computer (hopefully in AVI/DV format) you can use Video Studio to edit the file and make a DVD.
when I come to play it back an error message comes up saying the programme has to close down.
Does this happen with Windows Media Player? Or, just when you open it in Video Studio? Video Studio isn't very tolerant of corrupt video files...

Hi

The audio is normally connected to the ‘Line–In’ socket on your pc (the blue one)

Go to your pc’s audio properties and make sure ‘line-in’ is selected as the recording control option.
