HDV Playback Problems

Post by BlackGTA »

Hi there,

I am currently using MSP8 and a Sony HDR HC1E. I do record in PAL. I have a 2Gb RAM, 3.2 Dual Core PC.

When I preview a tape to capture HD video in Video Capture, I won't get a smooth playback. It seems like if I was watching a 12 fps movie. When camera pans or zooms the playback screen freezes for a second. It is absolutely annoying. I won't choose the mark in/out points I want, I won't see eventual camera shake, etc...

When I capture the clip it plays OK at the Video Editor. But it is so annoying to do the preview in Video Capture like that!!

None of this happens if I capture the same images with the i.link conversor in the HDV to DV mode. But hey, I want to edit HDV!!

Anybody knows how to fix it??? Anybody has had the same problem??

Please HELP!!!!

The only way to fix the problem is to buy Movie Factory 5 and use it for your captures and previews, it's doesn't have the problems of MSP8 or VS9.

Movie Factory 5 is much better with High Definition video.

I have a Sony HVR-A1P and I have the same problem. I am now down converting to DV as I capture because I don't like the jerkyness. At least it was better than in Premiere Pro 2.0. All that showed me was a black screen! (It captured ok though)

I'm sorry, but does it really matter if it looks jerky during capture, as long as it captures fine? The important thing is being able to edit and publish the captured file, which can be done smoothly in proxy mode. The problem is that capturing MPEG requires enormous horsepower to reconstitute the video from the I+P+B frames, while the data transfer is going on. The capture app is designed for use with computers that may not have sufficient resources available to reconstitute each frame in real time.

Yes, it matters. (Thanks Troppo!)

I've downloaded DVD Movie Factory 5 free trial and it works well. (Thanks tyamada!!) You get the nice and smooth preview of HDV footage Video Capture should give. It would be fine if you could do some batch capture too. (Note for further Service Pack's!!! :) )
