Trim Clip Caused Black Bars

Post by instantlegend »

I trimmed off the beginning of a clip and now the clip is in widescreen format with black bars at the top and bottom. How can I keep this from happening and how can I fix this clip?

It looks like you will need to post info about the type of capture this is (MPEG vs. AVI) and what the settings were. The more info you post, the better the chances are that someone can help you on this forum.

This capture is mini DV from a Sony camcorder captured as an AVI file. The files were captured correctly in 4:3 format, but as soon as I trim one it changes the clip to 16:9 format. This is very frustrating.

Hi

Right click a clip in the timeline , select properties,
look at the attributes line,
it should show 4:3,
If it shows 16:9 then your cam corder is set to record widescreen.

The properties showed 4:3 format after capture.

After trimming the clip the properties now show 16:9 format.

Why???

One of the unexplained mysteries of the universe? ;) I think that for some reason UVS is defaulting to 16:9 for new projects (which kicks in when you trim the clip). There may be an entry in one of the INI files which sets the default aspect ratio for new projects... I dunno. It might be easier to just correct the aspect ratio rather than change the default.

HTH
