Tweening in GIF Animator

Post by webdizzy »

I'm trying to tween an object in two frames. In the tween dialogue box I have it set to start from frame one and end with frame 2, insert 5 frames with a delay of 10. In the "Objects" tab of the tween dialogue box I've checked to tween "Currently selected objects" and the "Position" attribute. When I click OK, the frames are added but they're duplicates of frame 1 instead of tweened frames. However when I check BOTH the "Position" AND "Transparancy" attributes, they ARE tweened frames but the transparancy changes, which I don't want. What could I be doing wrong? This is driving me nuts!

Also, when I duplicate a frame that has an object and then try to change the position of the object in the duplicated frame, the object in the original frame changes, too. What am I doing wrong???

Thanks in advance for any help!

Without being able to see your screen, all I can suggest is to look at the Object Manager and double check what objects are selected there. If you can somehow post a screen shot, that would make it really easy to answer.

In Frame 2, you do have the selected objects in a different position?

As for your second issue, that just doesn't seem possible... I cannot think how to replicate that. Unless you are talking about moving the object up or down in the Object Manager. Is that what you are doing, perhaps? The order of objects in the Object Manager applies to all frames.

If you can provide a screen capture or be more specific on details, that may help figure out the cause...

For tutorials on tweening, see my web site (bottom of my signature below) and http://macographics.com/tutGA5tweeningintro.html Those may have a hint or two as well.

First, here's a screenshot re: the second issue. Frame one has 3 objects -- a background, some text, and a musical note. I duplicated frame 1 to create frame 2. When I rotate or move the musical note in frame 2, the note in frame 1 rotates or moves the same. I just realized that duplicating the frame didn't actually duplicate the objects. How do I duplicate other than right clicking on the frame and selecting duplicate frame? I managed to do it earlier by recreating a new frame from scratch, but that's when I had the other problem w/ the tweening.

I'll post a screen shot for the first issue in a few minutes. . .

Aha. You are not just moving an object, you are altering it... If you rotate an object, that change applies to all frames.

To do what you want, you must duplicate the musical note. Just click the original note in the Object Manager, and use the Duplicate Object button on the Object Manager. It's the second button from the left. In your screen shot, it's greyed out because no objects are selected.

I recommend checking this out thoroughly... http://www.mts.net/~nelsrob/tuts/uga5basicsf.htm Just about everything you need to know is in there. A bit of reading, but worth it.

Here's the screenshot of tweening, after I created the second frame from scratch (and could therefore have the note in a different position). I'm trying to animate the musical note so that it wiggles back and forth. As you can see, frames 2 thru 5 are the same as frame 1. I'm sure there's something obvious I'm not seeing. . .

Thanks for your help. I looked for a GIF Animator forum but didn't realize it was under Web Utilities.

Right, that's what I ended up doing. But now what about the tweening?

Okay... for what you want to do here, tweening is not the answer. If you wanted to have a note simply move from one side of the screen to another, tweening is what you want. But in this case..

If you want several frames in a row of it wiggling, here's what will work.

Frame 1 has note 1. Frame 2 has note 2. Select both frames by clicking Frame 1, then hold the CRTL key down and click Frame 2. Now click the Duplicate Frame button. You will have Frames 1 and 2 now also as 3 and 4. Click the Duplicate Frames button until you have the desired number.

I assume you have other frames to add after - otherwise, two frames would do if all you want is a wiggling note.

Oh, OK. I thought tweening would make the wiggling smoother and create frames with "in between positions" of the note for me.

Thanks for your help! Thanks also for the link to the info on GIF Animator.

Aha! Now we're getting somewhere... For a "smooth" wiggle, the best look would be to do the rotate, but more of them with a smaller degree of rotation. Tweening can sort of do this, but it looks weird... You don't use position, just transparency.

You're most welcome! :D
