Help...MF4 Won't recognize complete MPEG anymore...

Post by calibrator »

I created a DVD using MF 4. I imported 4 MPEGs from my hard disk (made from my Sony camera).
Worked fine until I moved the thumbnails around on the menu screen, and the file names got mismatched to the thumbnails.
Then I created the DVD.
What the problem is, one of the MPEGs used to be 16 minutes long, now
is only 2 1/2 minutes long. (only in MF4)
If I play the MPEG with Windows Media Player, It is fine (16 minutes long)
nothing missing.
If I import the same MPEG back into MF4...It is only 2 1/2 minutes long.
I tried renaming and moving the file to a different location, then importing
It back into MF4...same problem 2 1/2 minutes long.
Can't get MF4 to recognize the complete MPEG any more.
Has anyone Else made this mistake??? :?:
Help... :(

Hi Calibrator, welcome to the forums,

I'm not sure I really understand how that is happening.

Did you save the MF4 project? When you are "bringing in" the MPEG file, are you using the same project? If so, start a new project, insert the MPEG, does it still show the same?

How did you create the MPEG files? Are they DVD compliant? Do you have any other video editing apps? What are the properties of the MPEG file?

And in answer to your question, no luckily I haven't made that mistake..

Hi,
The method that MF4 uses to import or record video files can be very confusing with respect to file naming. I've gotten the videos mixed up before because of the unique long filenames

It sounds like you have the files mixed up somehow.

From the MF4 Launcher screen start a new project and assign a completely
new working folder. Go into the MF4 screen and hit the F6 key.
Make sure the working folder is the same you assigned from the launcher screen. If not, assign the same drive/directory.
Re-import you videos again into MF4 and check them.

Under the Working folder that you assign there will be a directory called "Capture". That's the directory where MF4 puts the imported files when you import them from the camcorder.

Hope this helps,

MD

Thanks for the replies...Maddrummer3301 and Videoman. In response to your questions..Yes I did save the project and there after I have the problem. I did try opening the same file in a totally new project. Same problem. I even imported A copy of the original "problem file" from my laptop in A new project with a different file name...same problem.
I made about 25 files all the same way and only this one has the problem.
I shot the MPEGS with my Sony camera (digital still camera in movie mode) I then saved them on my hard drive. Then I import them into MF4.
I have no other Video editing apps...
I am a newbie to DVD authoring...I don't know how to tell If they are DVD compliant.
When I Import the file into a new project, A message box comes up and asks "the file Reel#8 has been modified, do you want to relink It to another file?" I chose yes and It takes me to the location where the file originally came from, an then I choose the same file...Reel#8. It still has the same problem.
The properties of this file are MPEG 1 , 347,147K , duration 149.040 seconds. (This file originally is about 16 minutes long.)
Video properties MPEG-1 Video, 3726 frames, 24 bits 640 by 480
frame rate 25.000 frames per second, Variable bit rate.
MPEG Audio layer 2 files, 4,769,280 Samples. Layer 2. Bit Rate 64 kbps.

I even uninstalled the program, manually removed the remaining files, restarted the computer, reinstalled the program, did the update pack, and I still have the problem.
Could you explain "DVD compliant" and relinking?
Thanks in advance for the help . :D
