Navigation - Play Button

Post by Rooster »

I've created a DVD with VideoStudio 9. It has three titles, the first and second have chapters, the third does not. There is a Main Menu with three thumbnails, one for each title. The first and second thumbnails take you to respective Sub-menus for their respective titles, the third thumbnail plays the third title immediately. The sub-menus each have chapter thumbnails. They also each have a Play button.

I expected that the Play button would play the respective title (first or second) from the beginning and then end after the last chapter. However, if I click the Play button on the second sub-menu it plays the FIRST title instead of the second. If I click any of the chapter thumbnails the appropriate chapter from the SECOND title plays correctly.

Also once the first or second title finishes, play continues with the next title.

I'm guessing that this is just the way it is as I cannot see any options to change this behaviour. Am I correct?

Hit the little gear icon on the bottom left, and there is a pulldown menu item to say what to do after each title (play next title or back to menu)

G'Day Rooster,

If I understand your description correctly (:-)) then I believe you are correct - "this is just the way it is". I am not sure which ULead product (high end), if any, has the ability to redefine the menu structure and more importantly the movement/sequence around and within thumbnails on each menu level. Before I came to ULead, I used Pinnacle's Liquid Edition (their megabucks high end product) and it was brilliant for allowing the design and layout of menus and how you could define the navigation within the individual page of each menu i.e. you could click and drag coloured lines that indicated the order in which using the left and right arrows could move the user between thumbnails on the individual menu etc - a very simple WYSIWG interface to creating a user friendly interface you your DVD masterpiece.

I haven't been able to determine from reading product manuals for ULead's high end products whether they have anything to match it (their manuals leave something to be desired :-)) - given that I haven't found anything similar I suspect that they just don't have it - or perhaps if they do then it is by some much more tortuous route than Pinnacle's Liquid Edition (which might be why I can't find it by browsing the manuals :-)).

Peter,

Ulead's DVD Workshop 2.x gives you the flexibility to create menus from scratch, and add button Playlists for the different Titles in your project. It also has other advanced features like Subtitles and multiple audio tracks.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I understand your suggestion about the 'play next title or return to main menu' option but that doesn't help with this problem. If the user selects the second thumbnail on the main menu they are taken to the menu for the second title, which is as it should be. However, if they now click the play button on this menu, instead of playing the second title, it plays the first.

I guess I'll just have to let people know to use the chapter thumbnails.

Thanks again.

I think that "Play" button is a PLAY-ALL button (meaning it will play all Titles).
