Adding MPEG video files
I have been making DVD's from converted transport stream files. I am converting the .TS files in VideoReDo. Everything has worked perfectly up until now. I have created 3 DVD's so far with 2 mpegs that were about 4 gigs each. They loaded into MF4/5 perfectly and after setting the appropriate bit-rate, my DVD was created and works just fine. Now, I'm on my 4th of 6 DVD's and all of a sudden, MF doesn't want to add the mpg's. After clicking on the file, my HDD churns for about 2 minutes, then stops and the hour glass in MF5 just continues and never does anything. At that point, I have to shut the task down. It is almost like it locks up before I even click on the file because it never high-lights blue even. I have no clue why all of a sudden I can do this. Any ideas?
Clearly, you have a corrupted MPEG. VideoReDo has some "repair" tools. Have you tried that?
And, I assume that you did all of your editing in VideoReDo, right? (I've corrupted perfectly-good MPEGs by editing them with Ulead.)
Every time I've had a corrupted MPEG, it had what I call "sneaky corruption." The file would play-back fine with Windows Media Player.

Yeah, I figured it might be corrupt even though it played just fine, so I recreated it using VideoReDo. However, I just opened the old MPG and recreated with a new name. I guess that didn't fix it. I will try to use the repair tools & see if that does it. If not, I'll need to redownload the ts file! Hope it's still available.
Thanks for the help.
update - the only thing I found was 'stream quickfix'. Is that what I need to use? It didn't fix the problem.

Ummm.... I think the "stream quickfix" was what I was thinking about. I don't actually own VideoReDo. I had the 30-day trial, and it didn't fix my problem either. But is seemed like a really good program... Easy to use, and I believe they really know what they are doing with MPEGs.
If you can re-capture, that's the way to go.
Womble has a repair tool (and a 30-day trial) too. I haven't had any corruption problems since I started using Womble... I have a feeling it's the same time-base correction as VideoReDo. But, it might be worth a try.
If you have A TON OF EXTRA TIME to fool around with this stuff, I actually have a list of MPEG repair programs. NONE of them fixed my problem, and NONE of them told me what was wrong with the file! I couldn't figure out how to use some of them... Of course, I didn't try the expensive commercial one:
PVAStrumento (FREE !!!)
DVBsnoop (FREE !!!)
MPEG Parser (FREE !!!)
MPEG2Repair (FREE !!!)
Project-X (FREE !!!)
MPEG Header Corrector (FREE !!!)
MPEG-2 Requantizer (free?)
All Media Fixer ($20-30)
MPEG Repair HD ($4000 !!!)

What version of VRD are you using?
Latest release is VideoRedo Plus Version 2.2.1.445 and they have Beta 461.
Does the edited file play back OK in VRD?
Also you should post your problem over at the VRD forum.
http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/index.php
I have personally not had an issue with VRD edited files with DMF 1-4.
I downloaded the trial version of DMF 5 and had crashing problems with it unrelated to VRD files. Clicking on the enhance video and another button caused constant crashes.
They're a friendly bunch at the VRD forum and are interested in fixing things.

I'm using 2.1.2.417 from October. Yeah the file plays back fine in everything I have including VRD, TheaterTek, WMP, WinDVD7. I tried opening the file in Adobe Premier 1.5 Pro and as soon as I added it and clicked on it, Adobe got a memory error & crashed. It's so strange that the file plays, yet editing software can't open it.
