Save As JPG

Post by tjchrist »

When I save a file as a jpg file and then try to place it on a smart media card for a photo viewer, it is unreadable. The computer says it is a jpg, but the card is not being read as a jpg. Right now I have to put the jpg into Power point and save it again as a jpg and then it is readable. There has to be an easy fix to this. Does anyone know of a setting I should change to make my jpgs be able to be ready on the SANDISK photoviewer?

Thanks for your Help!

Which version of PI do you use?

I never loaded my images back to a memory card to use in a reader. However, I have noticed a problem with edited jpegs on my Pioneer DVD player that can play straight jpegs. Some of the images cannot be played. These are the ones I edited in PI and saved as jpeg again without paying attention to the jpeg options.

In PI 10 (not sure about 11) the jpeg options allow for the images to be saved as "Progressive". This is the default in PI 10. What this option does is to allow a browser to load the image quickly in poor quality and then, progressively, increase the quality of the image in a number of scans. You can watch the effect if you look at your image in a browser.

Could be that your card reader has the same problem as my DVD player. It doesn't know what to do with the instructions stored with the image.

Give it a try. Save the image with the jpeg options open and make sure you deselect the "Progressive" option. I use the "Standard" option.

I have trouble with a number of programs when saving my .jpg files in PhotoImpact using the progressive option. Unfortunately, progressive is the default. If you just re-open and resave as standard, that should eliminate the problem.
