You probably got a bad batch of DVDs. Try a different brand. I've had a few bad DVDs, and I once had a spool of 100 bad CDs.... About half of them were turning-out bad, so I threw about 90 blank CDs in the trash! (By the time I opened the package, I didn't remember where I'd bought them, and I didn't have the receipt.)
I assume that the problems show-up at different places on different DVDs. (If it's the same every time, something has gone wrong with your image file.)
----------------------------------
Or, if the DVDs play OK on your computer, or on another DVD player -
Some DVD players have trouble playing "burned" DVDs. Some can't play burned DVDs at all. Some can play DVD-R, but not DVD+R, or they cant play R/W discs, etc.

Another problem could be the burn speed.
Do not burn at maximum but at no higher than 4x.
I have a 16x writer and use 8x discs. I have found that if I burn at speeds higher than 4x then many of the standalone DVD players either refuse to play them at all or with problems. When I burn at 4x they play in all the available standalone DVD players I have available to test them upon.
