Windows picture viewer keywords,descriptions

Post by ronlaw »

I have spent a lot of time putting keywords and descriptions on my pictures using the Windows Picture & Fax Viewer. When I look at my pictures in Photo Impact I do not see this information. I use this information to search. I do not want to have to redo all this work. Is Photo Impact or Photo Explorer capable of bringing in this information with the picture images so I can use this to search in Photo Impact?

You've chosen one of the worst ways to store such info. You need to look for a program that can move image properties from NTFS alternate data streams to EXIF or IPTC. I don't know any.

I have Roxio EMC 8 and the Roxio Media Manager brings in all of the information in the description field. I am having big issues with the Roxio EMC 8 DVD burn quality so I am looking for a new program. I like the DVD burn quality in ULead and was hoping ULead had a photo program that had this feature also.

Maybe you can submit the request to Ulead.

Hope this helps.

I tried to submit the request using the support form but can not submit because I am using the trial version and do not have a registered version.

Have you considered, or did you download PhotoImpact Album? You could create albums of pictures and all the data and descriptions you want for each image. You can burn to a CD or DVD.

I can open a Album, select an Image and it will tell me which DVD it needs to access the image. I have more than 40 albums and 25,000 images on 53 DVD’s.

I don’t believe it can import your existing data, you would have to start from scratch, however, I have had the Album since version 3 when I only had to 2 CD’s with only 800 images, and since then am never without it.

Thanks for the info. I am really trying to not start over from scratch because right now I have 7300 pictures either scanned or imported. It just seems like a simple feature but maybe bringing in existing data attached to an image is too complicated for PhotoImpact or PhotoExplorer.

Most Programs do not try to access the Microsoft's Description info becasue it is not widely used. I have tons of BD software and none can touch the Description info. You have to be able to export that info from the original Software program. The MS viewer does not have that option.

I also have more than a dozen graphic editors and none of them can open the image with the description info in tact. The image is their but the info is not.

I don't have IrfanView, or Servant Salamander on my drive anymore so don't know if either of them can access the MS Description. I do know they will access AWD Fax info. You might give them a once-over since they all have Trialware.

Guess your between a rock and a hard spot! Been there a few times myself.
