DVD Xpress freezes

I got this 3 weeks ago and it will copy to my hard drive from 20min to 2 hrs then the Xpress window will freeze or turn black. Then I usually have to close the program so that I can do Preview or Copy again (no pics in screen or frozen picture)
Do you think my DVD Xpress unit is bad?
So far I have only tried Capture Wizard DVD Xpress program. Using Composite connections from VCR, to USB from Xpress unit to Computer USB2.
Settings are set to factory settings: Composite Video, DVD mpeg2,34G free disk, Capture Wizard 3.7, Version 3.7.0.6.
Computer is: AMD 2200+, 512mg, Geforce 5200,160g disk.

Sounds like the box is either losing the signal or overheating. I am an ADS Instant DVD owner and I use a small fan to blow over the top of the unit. Give it a try, it may help. If not, I would return it and go the Instant DVD route, one has the output options for TV preview and a better chipset. Hope this helps.

Do you have a continuous video signal, or are there "gaps" (like snow) on those tapes?

The pics are clear. I get the same problem even in Preview mode. I will try the fan thing.
