Picture moving path question

Post by dabear »

Hey guys I'm getting then hang of this editor. The manual has really helped me out. Also you guys have helped me out the most.

I have a question. I can't figure this out. I have a picture that I want to zoom in on then roll to the right then roll downward to the bottom but then expand so you can see the full picture.

I can do half of what i ask but the moving path only has 2 points to work with(2d advance). how do i do this or have i missed something. Can someone tell me how to do this simply and easy. Thank you.

Dabear,
When you say roll do you mean scroll. If you are wanting to zoom in and then go right and then downward and then pan out to reveal the whole picture, I would suggest using a filter. Moving path has a 16 keyframe limitation. The Pan & Zoom or Cropping 2D filter would be your best bet and yeild the most control with the same number of frames as keys.

Not quite sure what you are asking, but I'll try to answer. I think you need more keyframes in the timeline of the moving path options. Advance the little time line inside the moving path dialog box to where you want the change/ Click on the button that has a little + sign and it will add a keyframe. Now you can change the properties of the picture at this specific point.
Sorry if this is not what you are asking, but hope it helps.
Cheers.

It would also help to know which version of MSP you are using. The procedures in MSP 7 differ from MSP 8

I am using video media studio pro 8.0.

I have a picture that has writting along the top then underneath is a car with 2 guys sitting on it.

I want to do this.

Have the writting zoomed in at the start of the sentence then the editor scrolls/ rolls(im not sure what you call it) to the right so you can read the sentence. When the whole sentice is done reading I wanted to scroll down wards towards the guys. But right before the scroll has landed on the 2 guys it just zooms out so the whole picture in on the screen.

I hope that helps you guys out. I can get half of what i need done with moving path but there is only 2 points to work with. Do i need to add points to work with or am i in the wrong effect area to be trying this?

Sending a big thanks to everyone

Hi Dabear,

This can be done, using 2D Advance Motion Paths. Depending on which Motion Path you choose to start with, there will only be 2 Key Frames, which are the points you are referring to, One at the start, and one at the end.
Now you can resize, rotate, do almost anything from there. To do this you need to become familiar with adding keyframes to the effects. Actually that is the most difficult thing to learn.. In the Effect options you can resize, rotate, and move the image how you want. In the preview screen you can drag the image, or enter the data... Here's an image to give you an idea...

Yep, that's what I thought. Just add some more keyframes. You are in the right place.

Vidoman that picture was the best! I'm slowly getting the hang of this. I've never used key frames before but I'm going to give it a shot and see what I can do. If I have any issues I know I can can't on you guys!!!

I know Ulead includes a manual with MSP8, but I can highly recommend Charlie Hills' "Getting Results with MediaStudio Pro 8" -- you can get it as both a printed version, or a downloadable PDF.

http://www.getting-results.com/

This takes all of the mysteries out of keyframes, moving paths, and much more.

k I just tried to do it but I don't understand. It kept doing the 1st keyframe. Like scroll to the right to read the sentence. I see how to add a key frame for a new start at a new effect but the 1st effect of reading the sentence goes to slow. how do I speed it up or do I have to change the zoom ratio for it to go faster. I dont get this???

hey hoff im using mediapro 8. When they say.

"Our books begin with essential background material, continue with targeted exercises, and conclude with full sized projects. Topics include"

Does that mean Video tuterals. Like I would get a dvvd to watch and they will show me how to do this. Thanks for showing me this I think I might buy this.

You get a PDF document which you can view on your computer and/or print out.

In addition, you get Mediastudio projects for the exercises in the document, both a starting project (usually a single video which you then manipulate throughout the exercise) as well as a reference project that shows you what you wind up with when done. There are also numerous videos, still images, audio clips, mattes etc. that are needed to complete the exercises.

Charlie does a great job of not just explaining how something works (you can usually get that from a manual), but why something is done a certain way. He has years of experience using MSP professionally and for recreation.

I'm still a newbie, novice to MSP. I used Charlies Book to figure out just what to do with it. It's a different world then VS. I think had I not purchased it, I would still be wondering how in the world do you make this thing go...:)

One thing that I got out of Charlie Hill's books is, don't be afraid to experiment, and make mistakes. To learn how motion paths and keyframes work, grab a short video clip, and make it move, add all kinds of crazy stuff. If you go wild, adding things then all that has really happened is, that you figured out how the program works....

Can someone tell me how to do this. It would seriously make my day. Can someone recreate what im doing but take screen shots and show me what to do step by step.
