Unknown Error message

Post by wizardofdilligaf »

Every time I try to edit existing text in a multi layerd photo I get an application crash... After I have the text selected I choose "Edit Text" I get the curser at the begining of the text block.... as soon as I try to move the curser, either by mouse or keyboard, the program crashes...

The error that comes up is as follows:

The instruction at "0x73ddllc7" referenced memory at "0x00000004" the memory could not be "Read" Click OK to terminate program.

This is really becoming a pain... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't give you an answer only replying to say that the same exact thing has happened to me using PI11.

I didn't note down the exact error code, but these things often happen when your temp files are filled up or your memory is faulty.

The first thing is easy enough to fix. Find the location of your temp files from your preferences in PI and close PI. Using the WinExplorer, navigate to these folders, click Edit >Select All >Del and restart PI.

Let's see what happens.

I can duplicate a different error message with the same trigger events with about 80-90% frequency on two different PCs. Windows XP captures the following information an sends it off to Microsoft:

Code: Select all

AppName: iedit_.exe
AppVer: 11.0.0.0
ModName: mfc42.dll
ModVer: 6.2.4131.0
Offset: 000011c7
Both machines have completely empty %Temp% folders, about a half a terabyte of available hard drive space, solid RAM installed that has displayed no errors with various system benchmarks (including running the Prime 95 RAM intensive torture test for 48 straight hours).

One workstation is brand new and has 2 GB of ECC RAM, which will recover from about 80% of most single-bit memory errors.

I have saved screen grabs and the XML file that Microsoft would have received.

Here is what Microsoft says:

If you click Details for this error message, you receive the following error information:

Error Signature
AppName XXX.exe
AppVer XXX ModName mfc42.dll
ModVer XXX Offse: XXX

The program may start briefly and then quit before the error message appears.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur because of incompatibilities between Windows XP and the Imaging program.

This issue may occur because Ulead PhotoImpact is not completely compatible with Windows XP.

This issue may occur because ModVer mfc42.dll is older than 6.02.4131.0 and a conflicting driver is not completely compatible with Windows XP.

NOTE: I found about 1000 other hardware and software programs that are also affected.

Canon, HP, Ricoh, CD Creator, SoundBlaster, and many other hardware drivers especially printers caused the incompatibility when trying to open an Imaging program. Network drivers were a big second.

Unfortunately nothing more specific than that.
