Softwrap trial error, please help...

Post by piko »

hi,
I recently downloaded the Video Studio 9 trial from the Ulead web-site and ran the installation normally, i went to run the program and rrecieved the following error.

'can't find the license file 'C:Documents and settings\all users\documents\softwrap\ULEADUVS9E2005042001\vstudio.sw'
Softwrap cannot continue until the license is replaced in the same directory as the program.

I have tried re-installing the UVS9 Trial, same thing happened, interestingly though when i attemp to open my 'documents' folder i am told it is not accesable, access is denied, and that the folder is 0Kb. Please help with this problem...

The trial has to be installed on drive C. And, there are probably other restrictions... It can't be a removable drive, probably can't be installed over a network, etc... Probably nothing "unusual".

I suspect that you are out of luck. :( I could be wrong, but I think the anti-piracy "features" prevent you from re-instaling the trial, even if the 30-days are not up.

When I had a problem re-installing the trial I had to re-format my hard drive and re-install Windows! But, it was a new computer, so it was no big deal... no data on it to loose, etc.

The Video Studio 10 trial shoud be out soon...

I don't think Ulead will help you, since you don't have a registered & licensed paid-for program. But, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to send a note to Customer Service... Maybe you'll get a response. :?

Are you saying you can't access anything in My Documents? Ulead (or something else) killed your Windows installation??? I think you're screwed!!! Have you been doing regular back-ups? You might need a data recovery program. I've used OnTrack in the past... but it's NOT free...

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but I'm having a softwrap issue as well with the trial version I've downloaded.

The installation of the version 9 completes successfully, but when I try to run the Video Studio I get a dialog box telling me that "Softwrap cannot be run with Filemon loaded". As far as I can tell (from looking at my running processes through Task Manager) I havent Filemon running - some other process must be using something that Softwrap regards as being Filemon. Maybe my anti-virus software.

Has anybody come across this before? I appreciate that Softwrap is checking for Filemon to ensure that somebody isnt trying to hack the trial version by checking what files are being updated when the software loads, but it appears in my case to be to clever for its own good...

Please complete your system specifications on your profile page.
Are you running Windows XP if so this may be a Windows XP security measure requiring that you be logged on as an Administrator.

Try right clicking the short cut icon and selecting Properties, Advanced, Run as a different user.

Softwrap / vstudio.sw error when attempting to star V9 Trial

Post by macks64 »

Piko,

This is one of those cases where searching existing posts works. Below is the solution kindly discovered by "babasarah" on 7 Oct 2005. I had exactly your problem, and changing the directory ownership/access as described below does the job. Just in case you are not aware, press "F8" repeatedly while your computer is starting up, to be given the choice to allow XP to start in "safe" mode.

Ok - it took me most of the day but I finally was able to open the trial version. For some unknown reason my "all users" document folder was denying access. I had to boot up in safe mode as administrator and change the settings so I was allowed to access the folder. Once I did that the program opened.

Just thought I would post this so if others have this same problem they could try this. Anyway it is working now.
