Hi,
first, I'am german, so my english might not be perfect, and I'have to translate things like Menu-titles, so they might not be equal to the ones in the english version.
Until now I used Ulead MovieFactory. But since I wanted to add Subtitles I now use the trial version of DVD Workshop. In total I prefer MovieFactory. Here some problems I have with DVD Workshop:
If I create a menu, I can´t change the background later.
I select a position as Thumbnail for a submenu, but the 'moving menu' always starts from the beginning.
If I activate subtitles on my DVD-Player, this will only show the subtitles from the next one to come. So if I add backgroundinformation for a city, and this city is on for 10 min, I might have to wait for 10 min until the first subtitle shows up. So it would be good if for subtitles who stay for a long time, to refresh them every now and then. I just wrote a program to manipulate the subtitle files to do just that.

Hello Dimitri,
welcome in the webboard.
I will try to answer (I am also german).
1. I don´t understand the problem. You take a picture from the left side and put it directly on den menu in the storyboard under the preview.
2. You slect a thumbnail of a videoclip? So you became a capitelpoint for a new menubutton.
3. I think the subtitels are not at the right postition and have not the right length

There is no proper solution, but there is a "work-around" in this thread.I select a position as Thumbnail for a submenu, but the 'moving menu' always starts from the beginning.
I guess that's one more thing to add to our "wish list" for Workshop 3.
Sorry, I can't help with the other problems... I usually start-out by dragging-in an image or video for the menu background... I don't remember if I've ever tried to change it later... I would have thought you could drag-in a new background at any time....
And, I've never used subtitles.

Thanks for the help.
Background: I tried everything but drag&drop. So now I know how to do it.
motion buttons: The workarounds are interesting, but then I prefer to use still buttons. In MoviFactory this is verry easy, so I expected it to be easy here to.
Subtitles: I'am not sure what you meen with:

Just try this, make a DVD with a subtitle starting at 0:00 lasting for a few minutes. Watch the DVD with subtitles deactivated, than activate them. And you'll get nothing. I suppose, that when DVDs where defined, they sought about subtitles to last only for a short while.3. I think the subtitels are not at the right postition and have not the right length

One more Problem. My Project has 3 Titles, each with 3 to 7 chapters. They are all part of one movie. So if I choose the last chapter of the first title, I wan't it to run from that chapter to the End of Title 3. In Movifactory, there is a point in the settings, where you can choose what should happen after the end of a title:
go to the next one
or
return to the menu
I can't find a option like that in DVDWS. Do I need to add all titles (or even chapters?) to the playlists of all buttons?
I already searched the Board for an answer but could'nt find it.

That is what the playlists are for; they give you enormous flexibility. When you choose a chapter, by default it plays from the start of that chapter to the end of the title and then goes back to the menu. If you wish it to go on to the next title, drag it onto the playlist before the menu command and so on. There will be a short pause when crossing from one title to the next, but this will not be noticeable if you end each title with a rapid fade-out to black and start with a rapid fade-in from black.
Have you read the manual?

Yes it is nice to have this flexibility, but I expected there would be an easyer way if you want the same behavior for all buttons, as I know it from MovifactoryThat is what the playlists are for
Did I asked any question answered in the manual? I don´t think so. No I did´nt read it from start to finish, but when I had a problem I did. And I definitly tried to find answers first in the manual before posting them here. So for example I found the complicated way with the playlist, but I hoped, I missed the easy way in the manual.Have you read the manual?
