I'd like to know whether I am experiencing a reasonable amount of delay, in Edit mode, when I click "Project" and then Play. When I click "Clip" and play that, it starts instantly.
When I click "Project" there is up to an 8-second delay before anything happens.
My setup: P4 3.0 with 1GB RAM and using internal hard drive. My project files are on a separate partition and I have ~20-30GB free space there at any particular time. The drives are defragged and I don't run multiple programs simultaneously. The original .AVI file is 60 minutes long, but the project has been trimmed to 20 minutes and, at this point, has only had video edits; no overlays, no titles, no music.
Saving and rendering happen very fast on this computer -- no complaints there. I just wonder if other people with equivalent setups are seeing their projects start faster.

I've got a P4 3.06GHz with 1GB of RAM, and Project playback does take a few seconds to start the preview. I haven't timed it, but I don't think it's as long as eight seconds -- that would seem like an eternity when you are waiting for it.
I did some work in UVS last night, and even with a single video file in the timeline (and with my overlay and title etc. removed), there was still a significant difference between Clip playback, and Project playback with a single clip in the project. Don't ask me why...
