Need to burn PC data to a video dvd

Post by elemental79 »

I am having trouble playing my burned dvd. I used the MovieFactory to create my menu and then under burning options I choose to output it to a folder. It created the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders and put the VOB's, IFO's, and BUP's as needed. I then added an installation for some PC software files that I wanted associated with the DVD Video. (So this way people can play the DVD in a DVD player, and then put it in a DVD-ROM and install additional material). The auto-run installer works and the data portion works fine, but when placed in a home DVD player, or a computer DVD player the disk is not recognized as a playable video DVD. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone ever put PC data and DVD video on 1 disk before?

Which Version?

Which version of DVD MovieFactory are you using? DMF 3.0 DC will let you include a data folder with your dvd -- it's in the burn step under the options button -- but this might not allow the auto-installer to run automatically because it will be put in a folder, and not the root directory of your disc.

How are you burning the dvd? If you go to explore the disc, you should see the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. The disc also needs to be burned as a DVD - what software did you use to do the burn?

What do you mean by "The disc also needs to be burned as a DVD"? If there is a special way to burn a dvd then thats definitly whats wrong with my disk because I just burned the disk as a data dvd. Is there special software to burn a video DVD from data files?

Hi,

It sounds like you have created a DATA DVD and not a Video Dvd.
(all the information is still on the dvd you created). It's just a data disk though.

You need to burn the Video_Ts folder in a program such as Nero
or similar and create a Video_Dvd.
Using Nero one selects "New -> Dvd Video".
Then in the compilation screen drag the contents of the video_ts
folder on the hard drive to the video_ts folder in the compilation window.
If you want to add more data to the dvd drag it into the compilation window.
Close the dvd. Video_dvd's are not multi-session dvd's.

Hope this helps,

THANKS! It worked! I dont need to coast any more DVD's :D

It's kind of odd that the burning software that comes with UMF doesnt include a burn DVD video option. But Nero 6 worked great.
