Missing audio when playing in DVD player

Post by sydneydawg »

MovieFactory 4 Disc Creator:
I am getting a strange effect. I create the DVD using MovieFactory (source is DV-AVI files). All the menus are fine. However, the clips seem to have lost the audio when playing in my DVD player. The DVD plays fine in my computer.

I have one clip that is a Windows medial player wmv file. The audio for this clip was not lost.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

...lost the audio... plays fine in my computer.
What audio format did you use for the DVD?

Sometimes I use DVDshrink (FREE!!!) just to analyze a DVD and confirm it's got the correct audio format.. (I'm sure there are "better" programs for this, but I happen to have DVDshrink and I know it has this feature.)

There are 3 standard formats... depending on where you live. (If a DVD has something else, like DTS, it also needs a soundtrack in one of the standard formats so that it will play on all players.)

Is your name, sydneydawg, a hint that you live in PAL country? Some older PAL DVD players can't play Dolby AC3.... but I believe this is rare. All PAL players are required to play LPCM and MPEG-2 audio. New players must play AC3 too.

On the other hand, all NTSC players must play LPCM and AC3. MPEG-2 audio is optional on NTSC players.

Thanks to the two posts above from DVDoug and htchien.

First: I have tried to install the update, but for some reason, the update responds that it cannot find MovieFactory on my machine. I have requested technical support on this one.

Second: I have tried Dolby, LPCM, and MPEG audio just to be sure that this wasn't an issue. Same problem in all cases.

Interestingly, I also tried to compress using Nero Vision - same thing happened. This indicates that the problem is not restricted to MovieFactory but may actually be associated with something in the avi files.

Out of curiosity, are your dv files DV Type-1 or DV Type-2 :?:

Whatever they are, try converting to the other type to see if that helps...

Another thing to try -- hit the "Normalize" option on the burning step (I'm away from my editing machine -- is that option on the burning step of MF4?)

George

See if you can output the mpeg audio as pcm in your dvd player. Usually this is under the audio settings.

>>>MPEG-2 audio is optional on NTSC players.

I can't find a model in all the stores that Can't play mpeg audio now.
They all play vcd's or svcd's which use mpeg audio. They all play the mpeg audio now as far as I can tell.
Lucky for us.
