Caputuring still images from MediaSudio.

Post by jorchert »

Was wondering. I was a Video Studio 9.0 user and still use it for some things including capturing still images from videos.

Wondering if anybody can tell me out there how to capture images from video in Mediastudio Pro. A new user as you can tell.

Many thanks in advance.

Capturing a still image in MSP8

Post by tv_news_guy »

Import your video file to the timeline. Double click on it. Then you are looking at the source file in the preview window. Under the preview window on the right hand side is a pulldown menu. One of these choices is save image to file or media library or whatever. I would reccomend saving the image to file. In my case every time there are a few things in the media library...MSP8 takes forever to boot. I have no idea what causes this. All I know is when the Library is empty.. MSP8 loads in seconds. With files in the Media library.. you can die of old age waiting to start editing.

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, before I forget. The frame that is visible in the preview window is the one that will get saved to file. wysiwyg

Have fun

With a clip on the timeline move the playhead so that the frame you want to capture is displayed in the preview window.
Below the Preview Window and last but one item on the right hand side of the palyback controls is an icon "Preview Window Menu"
Click this and you will see an option Save Image to, this gives 3 choices
Production Library
Image file
Clipboard

Seems to happen a lot Steve. My wife, for instance, never seems to remember that I was talking to her. That brings to mind one of my all time favorite Rodney Dangerfield jokes.

Rodney.. I was sleeping on the couch when I heard the smoke detector go off, and the wife came downstairs saying to the kids... "Shhhh, you'll wake daddy."

i get no respect.

Miss ya Rodney

Hiya Steve... keep up the good work.

HEY MODERATORS!!

What's up with the post counter? I replied earlier in this thread and the whatchamacallit next to my name says 40 posts. Then I replied to Steve later and the counter again says 40 posts.. hehe.. would I be surprised if this re-re-re reply still says 40 posts? Nope

What is the deal with that? I have MSP7.1 and working on a huge project with multiple folders and subfolder in the media library. I started video editor the other night and it took over 2 minutes to load, talk about being in panic mode, I backed up everything right then and there!!!

So, is there a quick and easy way of clearing out the media library after using it?

and

Can you make multiple sub-folders under storyboard to utilize a/b roll?

and

I am too chicken to update to 7.3 in the middle of a project...

and I need pan and zoom.

Back to my corner......

Yes there is an easy way

I'm not sure if these answers are in the right order.. but here goes.

Yup.. there is an easy way, When you are done... right click and then delete em.

I don't understand the a/b roll question... Could be "not enough sleep", that's usually the cause with us third shift news editors.

ANd regarding upgrading during a project... good choice. Wait till you are done. And you might want to upgrade to 8.0.. works awesome here.. the pan and zoom works well... and the multiple active video layers are a refreshing upgrade.

Hope this helps.

question: I am having trouble capturing video in the first place from my camcorder. I am new at this completly. I am working on a class project & i cant even barely start. I have the footage on the camera, the usb cord connected & it seems everything is set up. However the program wont allow me to select a source or do anything to upload the video. I am using the ulead videostudio7. if anyone would help i would greatly appreciate it.

There is the problem. Throw away the USB connection and get an IEEE1394 (Firewire / i-Link) connection) For a reason only known to themselves the camcorder manufacturers supply a USB lead and never an IEEE1394 lead.

USB is not suitable for the transfer of your video from the camcorder to the computer. If you don't already have an IEEE1394 connector on the back of the computer then you need to purchase something called a video editing kit. Here in the UK at PC World the kit costs approx £15 (GBP) and includes the card that fits into your computers motherboard, a cable to connect your camcorder to it and a CD.

The CD belongs in the same place as the USB cable - the dustbin.

Once connected by firewire cable your computer will control the camcorder and you can play rewind, fast forward etc from the keyboard.
