Problem capturing integral VHS tape via Canopus ADV300.

Post by marc1 »

Hi,

I have a problem with caturing a compleet VHSc tape with Videostudio 9.
I’m using a ADVC300 from Canopus for AD conversion.
The VHS tape consisted of multiple fragments.
I start capturing at fragment nr1 (everything is ok).
Fragment 1 ends and I get a snow screen from my Conopus for about 8 seconds.
Then the new fragment start.
But, Videostudio seems not to see this, instead after a will, it stops capturing at all.
I have to press the play button on the device bar in Videostudion 9 to get again pictures from the Conopus.
It seems to me that Videostudion doesn’t reconnect, in some way, to the new signal from the Canopus.
Also setting a fixed duration of capturing produces the same result.
When I do the same test with the Canopus viewer the signal rebuild synchronic with the TV set which I use to verify synchronisation with the VCR.
I also did a test with the “split by scene” with the same result.
Also using duration produces the same result.
Also, I updated to the latest sp and disabled all programs the are not necessary for the capturing process.

Has somebody a solution for this problem ?

Use the capture software that came with the analog capture device. (If a Ulead program came with your hardware, it probably also came with some special capture-software.)

My theory is that video capture drivers are not as standardized as more-common computer peripherals, like printers. It appears that some programs can’t communicate with some capture hardware/drivers.

Once you have a digital video file on your hard drive, you can use any video editing software or DVD making software, as long as it works with your particular video file format.

Hi, I have sort of the same issues... but I do not connect even the first time. I have a nVidia Fx5200 VIVO... and worked fine until recently. I guess one of these windows updates screwed up the driver configuration.

Give a try with MoviMaker. It works for me even though you can only use MS formats.....

The system has been working for a year and now it just does not catch signal, within VS9 and WindFast PVR application. It used to work fine and I have not installed a single program for months.

MoviMaker and VS9 do hit the same driver ( WDM universal capture ), but in one there is a "1" indicating it detects signal and the same driver, the same video, same menu if triggered by VS9 there is a "0" indicating no signal....

Good luck and please let me know if you solve it.

Cheers.

Hi,

out of one of the resources pin pointed here I used virtualdub...everything works fine and I can capture without any issues as I was doing it before...

unfortunatelly I cannot use VS9 for analog capture anymore..

I have an ADVC-300 that I use for analog captures, but I usually don't use Videostudio with it -- I use WinDV simply because it isn't a full-screen application, and because it has a 99 frame input buffer that keeps it from dropping frames if the disk or CPU are temporarily busy. I then take the DV AVI files and open them in Videostudio or Mediastudio.

Hi,

WinDV was a solution for my problem.
So, thank you all for your support.
WinDV keeps on capturing even if there is a time no signal on the VHS tape.
I did also a test with MS moviemaker.
Moviemaker did also stop capturing the signal.
Could be the same driver,I think.
The only thing I miss with WinDV is a timer function.
But it does do the job of capturing

thanks,

Marc
