Chapter points broken after edit to title

Post by BrianWesthead »

Just experienced a problem that seems to be related to the one described at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=9879.
I'm just evaluating DVD Worskshop Trial after outgrowing the simpler packages. I've created several DVD's using MediaStudio Pro7 but this one required sophisticated menus (it's an amateur dance show and I wanted chapter points for each of 17 dances).
First burn was perfect - except I had accidentally included a dance twice. I removed the duplication in MSP7 and re-created the title video. Of course my chapter points were now wrong for the succeeding dances so I deleted and re-created them (the tooltip on the jog bar says 'Ctrl-drag to move the chapter' but it didn't work for me). That's when the problems started :? .
The resultant .iso image fails in soft DVD players (Using Nero ImageDrive etc) and the physical DVD ignores the new chapters - selecting them does nothing and returns straight to the Menu.
The DVDW preview thinks it's all fine - so now I'm stuck. Anyone know a workaround? Is it a problem with the trial version of DVDW?

Did you re-import the edited Title clip into DWS2x :?:

If so, did DWS say anything that the clip had changed, or did it try to re-link?

It might have tried to re-use some old "temp" files (I'm not sure).

Would it be possible to start a new project with the new Title? I only ask in case it's easier, and to avoid the trouble shooting of the old project.

btw, what format is the video from MSP -- mpeg, dv .avi, other?

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't explicitly re-import - most other ULead applications just notice when a source file changes and to be honest I was hoping to avoid having to re-create all 17 chapter points... I find the DVDWS jog bar very tricky for this on a 1Hr title - no scrub and the Ctrl-drag doesn't seem to work. In my case I also have to search again to find a thumbnail for each chapter since the cue point is always black (perhaps I've at last found the killer reason to get MSP8 with its chapter cues :P )

I am exporting .AVI from MSP7 - I can then mess around with compression parameters in the DVD build.

I can obviously re-create the project - and that's my ultimate backstop - but it actually has quite a lot of work in it. Still I'd be quicker at it next time!

At least with dv .avi, scrubbing is quicker within DWS (but you are correct, MSP8's Chapter Marks pass along nicely to DWS).

I write down my chapter mark timecodes -- that makes it a little easier within DWS -- you can simply input the timecode to go to that point in the title.

For your current project, maybe you could remove temp files within the DWS_TS folder for your project? Then it might re-generate everything accordingly (make a backup in case something goes wrong).

I deleted the temp files, confirmed that I was seeing the new .AVI and created a new .iso image.

The image didn't play properly in RealPlayer, Nero or Windows Media player (using Nero ImageDrive to mount it), and the coaster I burned from it wouldn't even get past 'loading' in my DVD player :( .

Needless to say the preview in DVDWS is perfect...

I now consider the project completely trashed, and will have to start again from a clean project - which is a pain with my 17 chapter points with alternative thumbnails - at least I might make a note of the timecode in the old project before trashing it (can you get the timecode of the thumbnail?).

Incidentally I'm confused by the comment 'scrubbing is quicker' because in my version there is no scrubbing at all. When I drag the jog bar (which has no zoom) I see nothing until I release the mouse - which makes finding things a complete pain (scrubbing in MSP7 is excellent - complete with snatches of audio).

I'm not quite prepared to write DVDWS off just yet though my initial encounter has been a little bruising...

You're right about the scrubbing -- I actually meant "navigating" the timeline is quicker when you have the timecodes of the chapter points -- you can just type in the timecode.
