I have some material I shot on a Sony Z1 HDV camera. I need to provide the material to some unknown other editor, but I need to keep my tape. So I figure to capture using MSP 8 and then burning a DVD.

Should I just burn the files that were captured by MSP 8 or should I convert them to something else first.

Thank you... Ian

How long is the clip? DV - AVI comes in at about 13 GB/hour. At least it would be uncompressed and give a true impression of your work.

You could also export the captured video back to a blank tape in your camcorder -- that way there is no quality loss. But as heinz-oz pointed out, if the video is less than about 20 minutes in length, it would fit on a DVD in its native format.

The OP said HDV, not DV. And DV is compressed: quite heavily, in fact.

I would say, if possible, change neither file type nor format but try and duplicate it on another tape or disc, as is. If necessary, buy a cheapo HDD to ship it.

Agreed with Devil, and don't forget the resolution and colorspace conversion that would take place from HDV to DV -- taking away even more of the original impression of the OP's work...
