New to Video Studio I'm doing a mini project to get the feel of it.
I've copied a few clips which are arbitrarily numbered. Can I give them meaningful titles?

Hi Trikie,
You can rename your clips to whatever you want. If you rename them after they're already part of a project, you'll get a warning prompt asking you to relink them - i.e. telling VS where to find them.
VS will assign a default name consisting of UVS followed by the date of capture, and a number - which, like you, I find fairly unhelpful.
Instead, I prefer to name my clips with the date of their content which seems more sensible. It becomes a real pain to rename clips if you use the split by scene feature, since you can have a very large number of separate clips to deal with.

Thanks 2Dogs,
Presumably I go to the clips in the Capture Folder and re-name them there. When I do this the thumbnails retain their original number so I have to change them as well? I then have to relink each one? Am I missing an easier way?
Its also difficult to identify the numbered clips in the project file to make sure that each clip gets the correct title. To look at each clip first VS opens a second programme. Is this correct?

Renaming clips
Hi,
as far as I know u cannot rename the clips on your hard drive with V.S
To rename the clips in your library click on the default title then click
again (not double click),choose your new title carefully as only so many characters will show under the thumbnail,
regards Ken

Why do you say you cannot rename the clips Kenneth ???
I certainly have done it many times - as stated above you do have to relink them again to the thumbnails - although I find the easiest way is to just delete the existing thumbnail and import the video again and the new thumbnail will have the new clip name.

obviously superior knowledge.I did say as far as I know which proves how little that is.I based my reply from a Santarorossa site which I misread or understood,- that is "no you cant rename captured fileson the harddisc with VS.You can only rename the clips in the videoarchive but
this wont change the filename of the clip on your hard disk"It was from a list of FAQs.Keep up the good work regards Ken
