How long to render?
Hello
I downloaded a movie from the internet as AVI files. It took about 4 hours to download. 700mb Then after unpacking it became 7GB
This is a 2 hour movie.
I used MF4 to import etc. After resizing in MF4 the size became 3.7GB for MPEG2 When I selected “BURN” It gave a note saying that it would take some time to render. It has now been 10 hours and only 50% done.
This it the first time I have done this and I am wondering if this time is usual.
Many thanks

That entirely depends on the clip properties before and after. Your system spec's, of course, come in also.
If the original properties of the AVI file was DivX or such, each and every frame needs to be reconstituted, that takes time.
There may be politics involved also, when the vendors provide you with a download link to a movie and make it next to impossible to convert this movie to a format that can be burned to DVD and played on standard players, don't you think?

The file extension AVI doesn't mean much in reality. 700MB for a two hour movie, that means heavily compressed. I would guess DivX or XVid compression.
Whether the damage was done when you unpacked it (how exactly did you do that and could you play the resulting file?) or during the final render to DVD compliant mpeg2 is immaterial. What do you expect to get when you convert 1 file format at very lossy compression to another one, also lossy?
I would suggest that, what you are trying to do can't be done.

Hello again Heinz,
A friend told me his friend downloads movies and puts them on to a DVD and the quality is great.
I just checked with my friend and he said that his friend puts them onto a DVD in DIVX format.
I guess that you would then need a DVD player that can play DIVX and maybe a program like MF4 that can do the job in DIVX.
I will have to check some more.
Thanks again
Glenn

Hi. I just got the answer from another forum.
A product by VSO software called ConvertXtoDVD is a video converter software to convert and burn your videos to DVD. With ConvertXtoDVD and a few clicks you can backup your movies to DVD playable on any home DVD player.
ConvertXtoDVD supports most popular formats such as AVI to DVD; VOB, Mpeg, Mpeg4, MP4, AVI, WMV, DV and stream formats to DVD. It converts your files into a compliant DVD Video set of files and burns it on a DVD media.
I have installed it and it is now converting the movie. The time to do the project is 30min.
Cheers

The green screen on final DVD is usually happened when you are tring to use some XviD AVI for DVDs. To solve the case you can:
1. Find the latest XviD codec and install it to try again (however, it might solve one issue but have another).
2. Use the DivX codec instead (which I strongly recommended).
Most XviD AVI files can be used with DivX codec, but it will lose some quality (however the quality lost is not much).
DVDMF 4/5 should use DivX codec pack with no problems.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Htchien
I think I will stick to the VSO program for changing downloaded movies to DVD. I have done 4 so far. The quality loss is not noticeable. I am very happy with it. The conversion time is about 50 min for a 2 hour movie and then it takes about 5 minutes to burn the new DVD.
I will save my MF4 for putting my home movies onto DVD.
Cheers
