I'm trying to put together a movie for my dad's memorial service (its been 1 year since he passed from cancer.) displaying his life in still photos and video clips.
My cousin did this for his mom's 50th birthday... but the only options I see on DVD movie factory 5 is either or. Either a still slideshow or a video clip dvd.
Is there a way to do both on one dvd that I'm missing?
Can you make a dvd with pictures and video at the same time?

my only concern is being able to press play and have it run on consecutively without having to keep hitting chapter buttons once the clips end, because some clips are only a few seconds long.
I just want to be able to hit play once and have a still slideshow with music, and video clips with music then the end.
that's another problem. I can't figure out how to make the clips all one so I can add one song to the background and not have to do it chapter by chapter.
I'll try those other programs you mentioned and see if I have an easier time of it. thanks

Hello,
Displaying videos and slideshows is very EASY with MovieFactory 5.
I suggest not to make it complicated and keep things simple.
You can keep things simple by keeping them separated on the timeline. In MF5 you use the default option of "Play the next item". Whatever is on the timeline will play from one clip/slideshow to the next. It's not as easy to properly mix pictures with moving video so simply keep them separate. The dvd will play everything from the beginning to the end.
First to explain is you can put many videos and slideshows on a dvd and
on the timeline of MovieFactory 5. You don't have to JOIN them or get fancy unless your experienced with video software. Besides that you don't join slideshows from pictures with real moving video unless your working in the DV format (which your not). Keep them separate on the dvd.
When the dvd plays the videos and the slideshows will all play back.
Example:
From the launcher screen select to "Create Video DVD". In that module there is also a slideshow creation module.
After the video dvd creation screen loads set it up by pressing the "F6" key or menu for "Preferences".
Then set the "Working Directory" to a reasonable large harddisk formatted as NTFS file system.
Set the 'Project Properties" either custom or the defaults. Most important is if the videos are in 4:3 aspect ratio (most of the photographs will be) make sure to set the project properties as 4:3 and NOT 16:9.
Set the "Quality" setting to "Best".
You can have many videos & slideshows on the timeline. On the DVD they will all be displayed separately as listed on the timeline screen.
First load your video on the timeline. Import as many as you llike.
Then start making slideshows by hitting the "Create Slideshow" button.
After you create the slideshow it will showup separately on the timeline along with the video clips/thumbnails.
If you want another slideshow then click on "Create Slideshow" Again and create another one.
To change the "Playback" order of the videos/slideshows just click on them and drag them wherever you want them to play.
You just have to watch the complete project doesn't go over the size that you can fit on a dvd.
When you get to the "Menu Creation" page you would click on "Edit" -> "Advanced Options" and Uncheck "Create Title Screen".
Now all the same thumbnails on the timeline will show up on the dvd main menu. Pick a template with alot of thumbnails.
Keep it simple. Make sure to frequently save the project as you progress along like in any computer program.
Hope this helps,
MD
