I completed creating my first DVD with the new MF version 5, however when I playback the DVD there is no audio. I tried it in a stand alone player and two different software dvd players to no success. My source mpg is using Dolby Digital 224 kbps for the audio. All while editing chapters, creating menus, and previewing the disc it had audio, just seems something happened during the burn phase. I'm able to use the same mpg source file in MF3 to produce a playable DVD.
Has anyone else had this problem with no audio when authoring with the new MF5? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I feel I gave more initial info than as you say I made a dvd and now there is no sound. Ask for additional info, sure I'd fill in more on the thread if there was something specific anyone thinks I should be looking at.
Anyways seems I was finally able to get it to burn with the DD audio ok by creating a new project from scratch (only difference being I used different menu templates). Still don't know why the first project had refused, but all others seem to be fine with audio since. Thanks.

maddrummer, is that necessary?
Has anyone had trouble buring DD 224kbps DVDs with the result audio not working using MF5? My soruce file was already encoded DD 224k, the treat compliant mpeg was checked, therefore no encoding took place during the burn process, yet still no audio. That's all I was getting at in my question, didn't think I needed to give you every check box, option and setting for someone to offer a suggestion what happening in my first post. Usually its a back and forth progression, try this, whats this setting, maybe this is the cause...not pick on the first post for being incomplete.

This is YOUR problem and so if you want us to help YOU with YOUR problem you need to help us to help YOU.
Please detail ALL of the folowing.
The source of your files (e.g. camcorder TV card internet)
How did you get the file(s) into the computer eg firewire, USB, TV Card etc
What was the format of those files eg DV Xvid MPEG 4 MPEG2
The settings used eg
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
AC-3 Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
THEN
What did you do afterwards eg
Cut bits out, inserted transitions, altered the sound, added titles.
THEN
How did you try and create the DVD, what settings were used eg
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
(DVD-PAL), 4:3

charbs, I think, as an outsider reading thread, you first need to take a look at the number of posts that Steve and Maddrummer have racked up. These guys spend countless hours selflessly helping others and they endlessly have to extract even the most basic information from those very people they are trying to help! Take a look at this post:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8960
It's the basic rules (manners?) of the board and it's there for a reason.
"Has anyone had trouble buring DD 224kbps DVDs with the result audio not working using MF5?"
I don't know, but if you had done a search maybe you would know that.
"the treat compliant mpeg was checked, therefore no encoding took place during the burn process, yet still no audio."
This is the first time this data appears in the thread.
"Usually its a back and forth progression, try this, whats this setting, maybe this is the cause...not pick on the first post for being incomplete."
Yes, and usually it's a whole raft of unnecessary "back and forth" because the basics weren't covered in the first place. You haven't even filled in your system specs so you could be on a Commodore 64 for all they know!
So really, I think MD can be cut some slack for having a little dig don't you think?

charbs,
Sorry if you took offense.
Back to your original post while MF5 is working on the video if it's changing or converting the audio in the video the process should be visible in one of the temporary sub-directories.
I haven't burnt enough dvd's with MF5 yet to help out. I've been waiting for ulead to release a patch for the program. Yes, like any new program there are a few bugs.
I'm curious if the audio is actually in the .vob files or not. Maybe playing a .vob file in "PowerDvd" or "WinDvd" can show what's wrong.
PowerDvd has a feature when you right-click in the screen and select "Show Information" then the properites of the video are displayed.
You can also just create dvd folders on the harddisk and test it from there.
The dvd's I've made so far in MF5 are working.
If you can change the bit-rate of the audio to 256kbs before importing the video's into MF. Most programs use 256,384 & 448kbs for Dolby while Mpeg audio encoded at 224kbs is a standard with many programs.
Some programs I have will only encode the Dolby at 256kbs and above in 64k increments.
Dolby seems to be more standardized in 64k increments. When I first started using Dolby I noticed that 224kbs wasn't a choice in many programs.
Hope this helps,
MD

Thanks madrummer. I'll dig out the bad dvd and have a look at the vobs like you suggested, maybe I can glean more info on how they were built. Otherwise I don't have the original files or project since I was finally able to get a good burn in MF5 by starting over with a new project. So otherwise the issue is closed for me. Next time I'll be more thorough.
