can't resize scan area

I have Photo Express 2 on Win XP SP2. In the MiraScan window where I adjust the moving dotted window to decide what area to scan, that moving dotted window won't move or resize. The mouse cursor changes to the resize cursors depending on where the cursor is placed, but nothing happens.

If I single click somewhere outside the box, it jumps to where I clicked and now is a very tiny box.

This happened once before and I somehow got it fixed, but can't seem to fix it now. I tried File->Reset Config, etc.

Any ideas ?

Whenever an application calls a scanner, control is passed to the scanner and its associated software.
Have you tried downloading the latest scanner drivers

The resize area mysteriously started working again, no idea why, so if it goes bonkers again won't know how to fix it.

I have driver 3424P as my scanner is a 620P which I believe is the latest.
