Capturing from existing DVD
Hi, I'm new to the forum, sorry if this has been asked before but I coundn't see anything on a search.
Following a crash on my PC and a new install of VideoStudio 7, I also lost all the clips etc from previous projects. I want to make a copy of a previous project, but only now have the final DVD I burned at the time. Can I
1)copy the DVD using Video Studio and write another, or
2)bring the whole thing back into Video Studio and write another that way.
Hope this makes sense!

Sorry Trevor - huwbob did say he has version 7, in which case you need to do it this way :-
In Ulead VideoStudio7...
1. Click FILE > CHANGE CAPTURE PLUG-IN;
2. Click the CURRENT CAPTURE PLUG-IN drop-down arrow;
3. Select Ulead DVD-VR Plug-In;
4. Click the CAPTURE step button;
5. Click the OPTIONS icon and then VIDEO PROPERTIES;
6. Browse to the location of the drive containing the DVD disc and find the VIDEO_TS folder;
7. Highlight the folder and click OK;
8. Click the CAPTURE icon;
9. A pop-up should appear with a thumbnail representing the RAW MPEG video/audio contained within the VIDEO_TS folder;
10. Highlight the thumbnail and click FINISH;
11. Ulead VideoStudio will copy the data to the folder you have designated as a working folder and will load the clips into the timeline as well.

Thanks for the info, but.........
When I change the capture plug in, there isn't another one there to change it to. Do I need to install the plug in's seperately, or is it a set up problem with my dvd drive do you think?

Thanks for the further info
There is only one option in the capture plug in it's the Ulead direct show one, and it's not an SE version. The annoying thing is I know I've done it before, but not since I re-installed it all, have I missed something when I installed it?
Yes, this discussion took me back to the days of using VS7. I too, like huwbob, needed to get video off a DVD and I too received the same advice back then to change my capture plugin.
But I didn't have the several choices that Jerry Jones kept mentioning. I had a full paid-for version of VS7 and, seemingly, not as much "program" as other people.
Never did figure it out. I like VS8 better.

OK hubob then you still have the option to copy the .VOB files from the disc to your hard drive and rename each one from #####.vob to #####.mpg and then import them into Videostudio.
Just re-read your first post again and it occurred to me that if all you want to do is copy your DVD and not edit it in any way then you could use any disc copying programme (Roxio, Nero etc. ) and simply use the "Disc Copy" function.

Thanks for all the great advice
Will just rename the files etc as I might want to make a few tweaks. I suppose I'll have to re-create the menu's etc from scratch, but no probs.
Reason I wanted to use Videostudio is because I'm too tight to buy a copying package
